Job Overview
Part-time position (15 hours/week) responsible for leading the church’s comprehensive music program, collaborating closely with clergy, staff, and volunteer musicians to enhance worship experiences.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor of Music or Music Education Degree required.
- Master of Sacred Music or Master of Music Degree preferred.
Experience
- Choral conducting experience.
- Handbell conducting experience a plus.
- Proficiency in one or more musical instruments (e.g., guitar, piano, woodwinds).
- Professing Christian.
Key Responsibilities
Worship Music Planning
- Select hymns and choir anthems aligned with scriptures and sermon themes.
- Prepare and submit weekly music information for church bulletins.
- Provide/Arrange instrumental accompaniment as needed.
- Lead weekly choir rehearsals.
- Provide vocal technique guidance.
- Offer theological/scriptural insights into musical texts.
- Teach music reading and theory fundamentals as needed.
Ensemble Leadership
- Direct adult choir.
- Leadership of adult handbell choir, and youth handbell choir a plus but not required.
- Serve as spiritual leader for all musical ensembles.
- Invite and encourage instrumental participation.
Music Library and Administration
- Maintain up-to-date music library.
- Acquire legal copies of choral music.
- Manage musical expenditures within the approved budget.
- Ensure copyright compliance.
- Maintain history of music used in worship.
Additional Details
- Part-time position (typically 15 Hours/week).
- Salary negotiable, commensurate with education and experience.
