Job Overview

Part-time position (15 hours/week) responsible for leading the church’s comprehensive music program, collaborating closely with clergy, staff, and volunteer musicians to enhance worship experiences.

Qualifications

Education

  1. Bachelor of Music or Music Education Degree required.
  2. Master of Sacred Music or Master of Music Degree preferred.

Experience

  1. Choral conducting experience.
  2. Handbell conducting experience a plus.
  3. Proficiency in one or more musical instruments (e.g., guitar, piano, woodwinds).
  4. Professing Christian.

Key Responsibilities

Worship Music Planning

  1. Select hymns and choir anthems aligned with scriptures and sermon themes.
  2. Prepare and submit weekly music information for church bulletins.
  3. Provide/Arrange instrumental accompaniment as needed.
  4. Lead weekly choir rehearsals.
  5. Provide vocal technique guidance.
  6. Offer theological/scriptural insights into musical texts.
  7. Teach music reading and theory fundamentals as needed.

Ensemble Leadership

  1. Direct adult choir.
  2. Leadership of adult handbell choir, and youth handbell choir a plus but not required.
  3. Serve as spiritual leader for all musical ensembles.
  4. Invite and encourage instrumental participation.

Music Library and Administration

  1. Maintain up-to-date music library.
  2. Acquire legal copies of choral music.
  3. Manage musical expenditures within the approved budget.
  4. Ensure copyright compliance.
  5. Maintain history of music used in worship.

Additional Details

  1. Part-time position (typically 15 Hours/week).
  2. Salary negotiable, commensurate with education and experience.
