The Senior Director, Tax Operations serves as an essential team member who is responsible for Worldwide tax accounting and Federal, state, and local compliance as well as assisting with controversy, transaction, and planning projects. The position will build strong relationships with SVP, Tax & Treasury, other Finance functions, and business line counterparts.
Scope of the Role
- Actively manage all aspects of quarterly and annual financial reporting for income tax, including annual effective tax rate, forecasted global tax provisions, and uncertain tax positions in accordance with ASC 740 and FIN 18 principles.
- Provide oversight for the coordination of compliance for the annual preparation of all tax returns and statutory filings, including effective tax rate reconciliations, roll forward, and analysis of payable and deferred tax accounts.
- Perform global tax research and planning activities to optimize taxes and the effective tax rate and improve cash flow, which includes working with other executives, the global tax team, and external tax consultants.
- Ensure that the corporation maintains up-to-date tax expertise and awareness of international, federal, and state laws and their impact.
- Assist SVP, Tax & Treasury and VP, Tax Planning in evaluating the US and global tax impacts of new transactions, acquisitions, and divestitures.
- Play an integral role in maintaining a highly responsive and technically sound tax organization that supports the long-term approach of the organization and interfaces across the organization to support key business initiatives. Develop, mentor, and recruit individuals to the tax accounting organization as necessary.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex tax matters into language that can be understood and factored into overall business decisions by management.
- Ability to interact collaboratively across the finance organization, with external advisors and auditors.
- Demonstrate leadership skills and ability to influence at all levels.
- Liaise with Head of Audit / Controversy on federal, state income tax, sales and use tax, property tax audits, as required.
Experience Required
LEVEL OF EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION / YEARS EXPERIENCE
- BA degree required; LLM or MST preferred.
- Fifteen years or more of experience; Big 4 accounting firm, law firm, or large corporate tax department experience required.
- Detailed understanding of US federal income tax rules and US GAAP Financial Reporting.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
- Ability to write technical memos and prepare presentations that are clear and persuasive, for both tax professionals and business executives.
- Strong knowledge of ASC740 and tax compliance reporting requirements as applied to business and tax-driven transactions.
