Position Summary

Develops product concepts into manufacturing documentation using the latest computer aided design (CAD) tools. Reviews engineering drawings and designs to ensure adherence to established specifications and standards relying on their familiarity of a variety of mechanical design concepts, practices, and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibility is as the product design lead and is required to be the lead designer for CAD best practices and developing and adhering to the Company’s configuration management plan.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to others, typically engineers, who may perform design tasks.
  • Plan and coordinate workload based upon forecast.
  • Perform part and assembly modeling and documentation using Autodesk Inventor software.
  • Develop models of components and assemblies that illustrate design concepts and intent based upon input and requirements set by design engineers.
  • Illustrate design intent through the proper application of datum’s, feature definitions, tolerances, etc.
  • Create preliminary design drawings and sketches for communication in design reviews.
  • Applies GD T fundamentals based on ASME Y14.5M-2009 standard.
  • Calculate and apply tolerances for fit of all assembly components, including all necessary tolerance stacks.
  • Apply proper dimensioning and tolerancing for basic features and components, e.g., fastener thread depth, wrench clearances, fitting dimensions, etc., consistent with accepted assembly methods.
  • Create Bills of Material (BOM).
  • Create drawings and procedures for manufacture and assembly.
  • Perform all drawing and BOM changes for Engineering Change Notices.
  • Participate in prototype builds and assembly trials.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • This position requires either a US Person (as defined in applicable export regulations) or a non-US person who is eligible to obtain required export authorization.
  • Associate’s Degree, Mechanical Technology (minimum).
  • Proven experience in mechanical design.
  • Experience with 3D CAD.
  • Expert knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning Tolerancing.
  • A strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Proven experience managing multiple, simultaneous analysis projects.
  • Experience working within a team environment.

  • The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas where under certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection. Primary environment: ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment.
