JOB SUMMARY
The Media Relations position at Sellmark Corporation is responsible for managing and enhancing the company's public image and our brands (Sightmark, KJI, Inforce, BulletSafe, Firefield) through strategic communication with the industry media outlets. This role exists to build and maintain strong relationships with editors, journalists, influencers, Pro Staffers, and the public to ensure positive media coverage and brand visibility. The job aims to effectively communicate Sellmark's story, products, and achievements while fostering trust with key stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS
PROFESSINAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time. The employee will be required to bend, twist, reach, push, pull and operate office machinery. The employee must be able to lift up to (50) pounds. Specific work assignments may change without notice. The majority of work will be performed in a climate-controlled environment, but the employee may be exposed to outdoor conditions such as inclement weather and varying degrees of temperature.
Schedules will vary depending on business needs, and may entail working nights, weekends and holidays. Must be flexible to work outside of normal departmental operating hours. Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS
- Create and implement comprehensive media outreach plans to promote Sellmark's products, services, and brand image.
- Identify target media outlets, journalists, and influencers, ensuring the company's message reaches the appropriate audiences.
- Tailor communication strategies for different media platforms, including print, online, and broadcast.
- Draft press releases, media advisories, and pitch emails, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and alignment with company objectives.
- Distribute press materials to media contacts regularly and track media coverage to measure impact.
- Ensure timely responses to media inquiries and maintain an updated press kit.
- Coordinate interviews between company executives and journalists, ensuring key messages are communicated effectively.
- Prepare executives for media interactions by providing talking points and briefings on potential questions.
- Track and analyze media coverage to evaluate the effectiveness of media relations efforts.
- Prepare regular media reports detailing coverage, audience reach, and any potential opportunities for follow-up.
- Identify potential issues or negative press, and develop strategies to address or mitigate any potential damage to the company's reputation.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with key journalists, reporters, and influencers in relevant industries.
- Regularly engage with media professionals to ensure continued interest and positive coverage of Sellmark.
- Act as a liaison during any crisis communication situation.
- Work closely with the marketing and communications teams to ensure consistency in messaging across all company platforms.
- Share media coverage and related insights with internal stakeholders to keep teams informed about the company's public image.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute media events, product launches, and press conferences, ensuring smooth logistics and effective media engagement.
- Follow up with media attendees post-event to ensure coverage and gather feedback for future improvements.
PROFESSINAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
- In-depth knowledge of our Industry's media relations, public relations strategies, and effective communication practices.
- Familiarity with the media monitoring tools and reporting software.
- Strong understanding of social media platforms and digital communication strategies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to diverse audiences.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), media monitoring tools, and press release distribution platforms.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the capability to respond quickly and effectively in high-pressure situations.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Ability to think strategically and develop innovative approaches to media engagement.
- Strong attention to detail, ensuring all communications are accurate and error-free.
- Professional demeanor, with a high level of discretion and confidentiality.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset to work across departments.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in media relations, public relations, or communications, with a proven track record of securing media coverage.
- Experience in managing media events, press conferences, and media inquiries.
- Previous experience in crisis communication management is an asset.
