Reporting to the Manager, Marketing and Sponsorship, within the Strategic Communications and Initiatives Division, the Sponsorship Consultant is responsible for the end-to-end processes of sponsorship and advertising sales. The role’s primary function is to generate non-tax revenue to fund and offset the costs of City properties, programs, and events. With a focus on the Sports and Recreation portfolio, this position requires expertise in both short-cycle selling to local businesses and complex partnership development with major corporations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Build, maintain, and manage sponsorship and advertising accounts – Grow relationships with corporations, agencies, and local businesses, acting as City liaison.
- Generate and maximize revenue – Negotiate sponsorship and advertising agreements that meet and exceed budget parameters, and initiative objectives, enhancing client profiles.
- Develop and manage new sponsorship and advertising projects – Research new market opportunities. Conduct internal/external needs analyses to develop campaign and project frameworks to support objectives.
- Create and deliver sales presentations and client-focused proposals – Compile and produce materials to support sales functions and promote initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with City processes and policies – Manage the administration of legal agreements and their terms to ensure that all processes are efficient, accurate, and aligned with corporate standards.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders – Work with key internal stakeholders such as Divisional Managers and Directors, City programming staff, and event coordinators to implement sponsorship and advertising activations.
Skills and Qualifications
- University degree or post-secondary diploma in business administration, communications, marketing or advertising sales, or related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years experience in a sales role-specific to sponsorship and/or media sales.
- Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of sales, marketing, and communication principles, combined with an understanding of public sector/non-profit priorities and operations.
- Experience in the sports and recreation industry is an asset.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills – talent for presentation.
- Strong negotiation and mediation abilities.
- Effective public relations skills – capable of liaising professionally with the public, elected officials, external agencies, and corporations.
- Excellent organization and time-management skills – capacity for managing multiple projects, tasks and deadlines concurrently.
- Adaptable - able to work in a changing environment with various teams, internal and external service providers, and client partners.
- Innovative - adept at applying research, insights, and analytics to achieve sales goals in creative ways.
- An effective team player and collaborator.
Hourly Rate/Salary: $86,858.00 - $115,812.00
