Scholarly Communication and Affordable Learning Librarian

Ball State University Libraries seeks an energetic, passionate, and creative librarian to champion open education, scholarly communication, and affordable learning initiatives. As a part of the Digital Scholarship and Scholarly Communication team, this person is directly responsible for advocating for, supporting, and educating the campus community on issues related to scholarly communication, copyright, open access, and open education. The Scholarly Communication and Affordable Learning Librarian will participate in the library liaison program, building collaborative relationships with faculty and championing affordable course materials, open resources, and open publishing.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide consultative, educational, and outreach services to promote faculty, student, and staff use of Open Educational Resources, Open Access scholarship, and University Libraries Institutional Repository (Cardinal Scholar).
  2. Participate in University initiatives to support and promote emerging models of scholarly communication and affordable learning.
  3. Advance strategic partnerships with university stakeholders related to course material affordability initiatives.
  4. Support an inclusive, diverse, and collaborative work environment and service culture to advance the strategic direction of the University Libraries.

Minimum Requirements:

  • MLS / MLIS / MIS degree from an ALA accredited program or other relevant degree by date of employment.
  • Experience identifying, assessing, and/or using open educational resources; experience with teaching and/or library public service; academic library experience.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to collaborate with colleagues in an academic setting.
  • Authorization to work in the US.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional advanced degree, certification in, or familiarity with, Creative Commons licensing, open licensing, and fair use copyright concepts.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and marketing academic library services.
  • Knowledge of trends, standards, and literature relevant to open access initiatives in academic settings.

Compensation: The minimum salary for this position is $52,000.
