Job Description

The Multimedia Content Creator brings Syracuse University to life through compelling content production. This role combines creative storytelling, technical expertise, and collaborative teamwork to develop high-quality multimedia assets that advance strategic business and marketing objectives. The candidate can turn finished multimedia projects with speed, quality, and efficiency. Working often under the direction of digital leadership, they can shoot and edit finished multimedia projects quickly to advance the content and digital strategy while following brand guidelines.

Education and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Three (3+) plus years of experience working in a high performing marketing operation.
  • Experience in sound design and creating motion graphics to enhance content engagement.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Track-record of producing effective multimedia content for use across marketing platforms.
  • Demonstrated skills in shooting and editing.
  • Deep knowledge of multimedia equipment.
  • Excellent interviewing skills.
  • Proficiency in still photography and videography, with a keen eye for composition and visual storytelling.
  • Expertise in Adobe Premiere for video editing and post-production.
  • Ability to configure, operate, and maintain studio and/or field audio, lighting, and associated production equipment.
  • Knowledge of computerized tape editing applications and procedures.
  • Knowledge of professional audio and/or video tape editing and post-production procedures, techniques, and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Plays a critical role in bringing the Syracuse University brand to life effectively and consistently through compelling multimedia deliverables.
  • Based on the needs of the project, the content creator will use their artistic and technical skills to create content from concept to production.
  • Operates multimedia equipment, on location or in the studio, and works with strategy, creative, and digital teams to create compelling content for various platforms.
  • Can turn raw or fully packaged content within a few hours or a day when needed.
  • Excellent communicator and problem-solver, can pivot or adjust before, during, or after shoots based on changing deadlines or situations.
  • Conceptualize, produce, and edit multimedia content from ideation to final delivery with speed, quality, and efficiency.
  • Ensure timely delivery of content, sometimes on daily deadlines, while maintaining high production standards.
  • Collaborate closely with digital leadership and marketing, digital/social, and content strategy teams to craft multimedia assets aligned with project goals.
  • Maintain consistency with Syracuse University’s brand guidelines while executing innovative creative concepts.
  • Design, transport, set up, and operate production equipment, including audio and lighting equipment, for field and studio productions.
  • Conduct interviews, capture b-roll footage, and edit soundbites to develop engaging video content.
  • Utilize still photography and videography skills to enhance multimedia storytelling.
  • Apply sound design techniques and motion graphics to elevate post-production quality.
  • Partner with marketing, digital/social, and content strategy teams to advance business objectives through multimedia.
  • Use marketing best practices to capture multimedia content that is oriented to galvanize target audiences.
  • Archive and manage multimedia assets effectively for future use.
  • Complete troubleshooting and preventive maintenance reports on video and audio production equipment; assist in repair and upkeep of studio and production sets and properties.
  • Maintain equipment inventory and field and studio production schedules.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Solution-oriented mindset with a proactive approach to creative problem-solving.
  • Strong collaboration skills within a matrixed organization structure.

Physical Requirements

  • Close visual acuity to perform tasks related to the production of video content including visual framing, color grading, color temperature, focus, and the use of color charts.
  • Ability to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, including professional voiceover, audio equipment, and appropriate audio levels.
  • Frequently moves Audio/Visual equipment across campus to various sites and for events; ability to move, lift, set up, and break down photography and videography equipment. Ability to lift 25-50 lbs. repeatedly at multiple assignments.
  • Flexibility and ability to position oneself to shoot a variety of images. Photo/video shoots may require standing, sitting, and kneeling for 4-8 hours.
