DPL is hiring a Branch Supervisor for our newest branch, Lena Archuleta Branch Library located on 3300 W Nevada Pl, Denver. In this position, you will supervise staff and oversee daily operations at the location where all are free to explore and connect. The ideal candidate must be committed to providing a welcoming environment for all customers with the ability to foster curiosity by promoting our services throughout the community, especially among youth and our underserved populations.
About this Branch
The 28th location of the Denver Public Library is located in the Westwood Neighborhood. The 6000 square feet library will be part of a large community center operated by Lifespan Local. The Historical Westwood Neighborhood is located on the west side of Denver and has a diverse population of predominantly Spanish and Vietnamese speakers. DPL will be collaborating with Denver's multicultural and nonprofit community to create equitable opportunities for learning, discovery, and connection.
About You
Our ideal candidate has:
- Experience in presenting and providing library services to customers of varying levels of knowledge and experience.
- Knowledge of popular materials and resources for all ages and of current trends in library programming.
- Skills in providing programming, reference, and advisory services to all ages.
- Skill in providing strong, dedicated, inclusive, and compassionate leadership.
- Ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and trauma-informed skills, positive attitude, cultural sensitivity, and sense of humor in working with customers of all ages and backgrounds, coworkers, and community.
- Ability to creatively problem-solve, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner.
- Ability to recruit, train, connect, motivate, and retain an equitably diverse team that is reflective of the community.
- Ability to use extensive workplace and other technology including email, internet, databases, eMedia, social media, and other software, with ability to work in a virtual environment.

- Ability to work extended hours, including some nights and weekends.

- Ability to steward all branch activities through scheduling and assigning work to ensure branch service needs are met.
- Ability to keep track of the branch budget in alignment with library strategic objectives and values.
- Ability to calmly listen and respond to customers' complaints and emergency situations.
- Ability to interpret and communicate library policies to staff and customers.
- Ability to coordinate and implement emergency preparedness standards to ensure a welcoming environment for customers and staff at the branch location.
- Ability to oversee building and grounds maintenance to ensure a welcoming environment for customers and staff at the branch location.
- A demonstrated commitment to developing and maintaining a welcoming environment for young people, including babies, toddlers, preschoolers, grade schoolers, and teens.
Minimum Qualifications
Education Requirement: Master’s Degree in Library Science.
Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of supervisory experience in a retail or public service operational setting, or three (3) years of professional library experience.
- Second language fluency is strongly preferred in Spanish and Vietnamese. Other languages will also be considered.
