Job Title:

Mott Middle College/Genesee Early College Teacher

Job Summary:

The Mott Middle College/Genesee Early College Teacher is responsible for leading the instructional program and implementing activities for high school students. The teacher serves as an instructional and decision-making member of the Early College team and is responsible for meeting the unique needs of students in the assigned area.

Essential Duties:

  1. Develops, coordinates, and implements instructional programs for high school students consistent with the Early College philosophy.
  2. Develops individualized instructional programs and development activities for students in the assigned area.
  3. Develops instructional strategies to meet the individual social, emotional, intellectual, and physical needs of each student.
  4. Develops curriculum plans, student extra-curricular activities and assists in the design of awareness programs on the Early College High School concept.
  5. Assesses and measures student achievements and growth.
  6. Works cooperatively with the early colleges and Mott Community College and University of Michigan-Flint staff and communicates with district and constituent district staff, other agency personnel, students, and parents/guardians.
  7. Maintains accurate attendance records, grades, and lesson plans and responds in a timely fashion to the request for relevant student information.
  8. Supports and assists in the counseling and guidance program with students in assigned areas of responsibility.
  9. Participates in staff meetings, in-service activities, staff development, and special programs.
  10. Supervises students at all times and maintains discipline in accordance with program procedures.
  11. Participates with students and staff in extra-curricular activities.
  12. Assumes responsibility for school materials, equipment and facilities, while maintaining a positive relationship for co-existence with Mott Community College and University of Michigan-Flint staff and administration.
  13. Consistently demonstrates Win-Win leadership.

Other Duties:

  1. Actively participates on the school improvement team.
  2. Represents the early college staff in the North Central assessment, evaluation and accreditation process.
  3. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree required. Valid Michigan secondary teacher certificate with an endorsement to teach subject area. Must meet requirements for highly qualified teacher as specified in No Child Left Behind. Master’s degree in content area preferred.

Experience:

Three or more years of successful teaching experience with diverse, underserved high school students preferred.

Skills/Other:

Demonstrates appropriate teaching strategies for high risk students. Demonstrates an understanding of adolescent developmental patterns. Demonstrates a commitment to the early college missions, purpose, belief statements and learning principles. Possesses a strong working knowledge of subject matter and current research on learning. Demonstrates knowledge of Google Classroom and other educational/instructional technologies. Possesses a high level of skill in developing stimulating student assignments and varied student assessment vehicles. Possesses an ability to develop and reinforce a positive self-concept in each student. Demonstrate honesty, integrity, and professionalism at all times. Ability to utilize district technology and work to maintain proficiency, as required skills sets change with technology and/or the needs of the district. Exhibits self-control, mature judgment, congeniality, and ethical standards in all working relationships. Demonstrated mental/physical ability and stamina for meeting the essential duties of the position. Punctuality and good attendance are requirements for the position. Ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions in accordance with board policies and established administrative guidelines.
