Job Summary: The Freelance Designer will concentrate on soft piece woven products under the direction of the Design Director. This role will be responsible for understanding and translating the DNA of Lafayette 148 through their design approach each season in collaboration with the full design team. This is an in-office position. Responsibilities: Support the Design Director with the design process from initial inspiration to final production. Create and execute on the vision of the Design Director, ensuring that the product is consistent with market trends, while defining the brand identity and overall business strategy. Supporting the Design Director in creating and organizing a cohesive woven collection. Lead required concept fittings and work closely with tech team on sample execution. Produce accurate flat sketches that clearly propose proportion, detail, and fit via hand or Illustrator. Create tech packs for all styles - responsible for owning communicating and following all design styles with sample room. Seek innovation through vintage, market, fabric and online research. Work closely with the technical team and head Patternmaker to develop multiple prototypes. Desired Background: Minimum Bachelor's degree, preferably in a related field Experience: 3+ years of relevant experience in women's luxury apparel Skills: In depth understanding of the Lafayette 148 NY brand DNA, ability to implement into design Ability to design around concept direction Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) experience a must Ability to travel internationally if required Possess an elevated sense of style, aesthetic, and color and understand how to translate trends through the lens of the customer and DNA of brand Expert knowledge of silhouette, fit, fabrication, construction, color use, sewing techniques, and trim. Pay Range: The base salary for this position is $7,000 - $9,000 monthly. Base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience and location.
