The Role
HuffPost is seeking a Visuals Editor who will work closely with the Head of Visuals to advance HuffPost’s editorial look and feel. The Visuals Editor is a versatile, solution-oriented, and resourceful self-starter with a foundation rooted in design and editorial layout. They are responsible for designing branding systems of different scopes and are comfortable collaborating with departments across the newsroom to create compelling visuals for the site. This is a full-time hybrid position, with the expectation of commuting to our New York City office twice a week at minimum.
You Will
- Create quick-hit projects & photo illustrations while also managing longer-term projects
- Design branding systems as needed for projects and one-off story treatments
- Work cross-functionally with editorial stakeholders, Product and within Visuals team to plan, develop and execute graphic packages, layouts, illustrations
- Produce maps, charts, graphs, designs, animations as needed
- Exhibit excellent judgment during breaking news situations and tight deadlines
- Make recommendations for and network with potential visual contributors (illustrators, animators, etc
- Identify skill growth opportunities: motion graphics, animation, video editing, photography, etc.

You Have
- 4+ years of experience working and designing in a news or editorial environment
- Strong grasp of typography, design, visual hierarchy and editorial layout
- Able to manage multiple quick-turnaround projects as well as 1-2 longer stories concurrently
- Demonstrate solid understanding of visual storytelling and what makes content appealing across various platforms
- Advanced-level photo manipulation and color correction skills along with advanced proficiency in Adobe CS.
- Possess solid understanding of HuffPost’s voice and aesthetic, and how to evoke emotions through color, typeface, photo, and other visual elements
- Creative coding proficiency and comfort working & communicating with engineers a plus
