We are seeking a Mechanical Designer to facilitate the creation and maintenance of Engineering Product Data (3D models, drawings, and BOMs) at Bruker AXS LLC located in Kirkland, Washington. The Mechanical Designer role involves working closely with R&D Scientists and Manufacturing Engineers to create CAD models, drawings, and BOMs. You will work throughout the entire product lifecycle, supporting research projects and prototypes through to initial production release, and executing design changes during assembly/integration/test and post-delivery.
The Kirkland facility is expected to grow very fast and the main focus of this role is to prepare the Engineering Product Data needed for initial production of a new product in a new manufacturing facility.
Responsibilities
• Create new mechanical part and assembly models in SolidWorks following direction of R&D Scientists and Manufacturing Engineers.
• Create new mechanical part and assembly drawings in SolidWorks.
• Setup professional drawing sheet formats, part/assembly/drawing templates in SolidWorks.
• Update legacy models and drawings to latest standards and formats.
• Execute design changes within an Engineering Change Management process following direction of R&D Scientists and Manufacturing Engineers.
• Create Engineering Data Package (drawing, model, BOM) for each production release.
• Support development and improvement of configuration management (CM) practices.
Qualifications
• Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD), or related field.
• Experience in scientific instrument development or other industry with low volume precision machined components.
• Experience developing drawings in accordance with ASME Y14.100.
Skills
• Proficient in mechanical design using SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software.
• Proficient in ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
• Knowledgeable on manufacturing techniques for metals; milling, turning, electric discharge machining (EDM), sheet metal fabrication, laser cutting, welding/brazing/soldering.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Desired Qualifications and Skills
• Proficient with ISO 8015 Geometrical Product Specification (GPS), ISO 2768 General Tolerances.
• Experience working in an organization with an ISO 9001 or AS9100 Quality Management System.
• Experience with printed wiring board (PWB) and/or electronic circuit card assembly (CCA) mechanical models and drawings.
• Experience with opto-mechanical drawings.
