At Sourcebooks, we are a dynamic and innovative publishing house, committed to delivering high-quality books across a variety of genres. We are currently seeking a Managing Editor to join our team and oversee the production operations of our core Adult titles. In this role, you’ll be responsible for planning, scheduling, and supporting the entire production process, coordinating between editorial, design, and external vendors, ensuring books are produced on schedule and to the highest standards. If you have a passion for publishing, a project management brain, exceptional attention to detail, and strong communication skills, we’d love to have you on our team!
This position can be hybrid in Naperville, IL or NYC, or fully remote in the following states ONLY: AZ, CT, LA, MA, MD, MN, NJ, NY, NV, OR, PA, TN, TX, WA, AND WI.
This is a exempt, salaried position with an annual salary between $70,000 - 90,000 with the final offer dependent on experience and qualifications.

What You'll Do:
- Project Management & Scheduling – Own and monitor health of the seasonal publishing cycle. Ensure that schedules and resources are aligned to the publishing list and meet quality expectations from MS turnover through final production.
- Collaboration & Communication – Act as primary liaison between departments, helping strategize the publishing cycle as well as address issues or bottlenecks in the production environment.
- Mentorship & Leadership – Lead a team of savvy managing editors creating an engaging, supportive, and growth-mindset approach to support our publishing goals.
- Process Improvement – Monitor and adjust process and workflows to support an agile and evolving production environment.
- Data Analysis & Reporting – Provide actionable insights using data and analysis to support continued growth and improvements in all areas of production, planning, and team management.
- 8+ years of experience in editorial production, managing editorial, or project management in publishing.
- Proven ability to manage complex project schedules across multiple teams and imprints.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Expertise in project management software (Smartsheet, Airtable, Basecamp, Monday.com).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on clarity and transparency.
- Agility and adaptability in managing multiple priorities and shifting deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills and data-driven decision-making abilities.
- Experience in high-pressure, deadline-driven publishing environments.
- Familiarity with Agile project management methodologies is a plus.
