Role Description

This role is for contract copyediting for Asteria, a new-adult fantasy novel. The Copy Editor will be responsible for the final copyedit of the manuscript for clarity, readability, grammar, and style so that it's ready for publication. The expectation is that the Copy Editor will use the Chicago Manual of Style.

  • Compensation: The current manuscript has undergone numerous rounds of developmental and line editing. The contract will pay $35-$50/hr., not to exceed $1,500. (This enables us to provide a highly competitive and equitable hourly rate while right-sizing the effort to budget.)

  • Timing: Work needs to be completed from mid-March to early April.

  • Interview process: 1) applications reviewed via LinkedIn, 2) select applicants invited to sample edit 10 pages (rolling basis), 3) candidate selected and terms defined, and 4) contract signed.

  • Future work: Our goal is to expand our editing team so we can increase the volume of books we publish! Upon successful completion of this contract, the Copy Editor will have the option of joining our larger team and being considered for additional work in the future.

Book Blurb

Conor hates life in Kansas, but she stays for one reason: to protect her sister from the danger lurking in

their house. That is, until the night her brooding classmate Jaime drags her into an even greater danger.

Suddenly trapped in the mysterious realm of Asteria, Conor has no choice but to flee with him through

dark forests and even darker tunnels. As they race to evade prowling fexes and sentinels, she learns of

the mystical forces at play in every corner of this shattered kingdom.

In the sea’s shadowy depths, Azra surreptitiously plunders ancient libraries in search of the lost magic

that could save his doomed city. Atop floating towers, the imprisoned princess Skyye plots to escape

with her dragon before political intrigue brings everything crumbling down. Across the wintry meadows

below, Evangeline leads a band of hunters on a quest to retake her stolen throne and fight for her

struggling people.

To survive, they each must confront the terror—and allure—of immortal powers beyond their

reckoning. And whether by destiny or chance, one by one their paths converge with those of the

“ordinary” teens who have stumbled into their dying realm.

Timeless myth collides with modernity in an epic fantasy that forces Conor to question everything she

thought she knew about the world and her place in it. Ultimately, these unlikely heroes must decide

what they truly value—and what they’re willing to sacrifice in the battle of their lives.
