Summary
Starting pay range for position: $17.50-$21.00 per hour

This is an on-call position, with variable hours per week to provide staffing as needed. Under supervision this position delivers direct customer service and helps organize library collection materials.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Projects a positive and pleasant attitude to the public and cooperates and maintains an effective relationship with other staff members as part of a team.
  • Greet and assist patrons with locating needed materials.
  • Shelves library books, magazines, and other materials in proper order.
  • Circulation (Checking items in and out on the computers at the circulation desk).
  • Assist patrons with copying, faxing and printing.
  • Assist librarians with programs.
  • Prep materials for programs and kits.
  • Adheres to library policies and procedures.
  • Develops a working knowledge about the organization and care of library materials and library services and programs.
  • Performs any other tasks as requested.

Qualifications and Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patrons to understand and fulfill their requests.

  • Ability to communicate clearly with patrons, co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to follow library policies and procedures.
Education, certifications and Experience:
  • Minimum Age 16
  • High School diploma preferred.
  • Library experience preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred, but not required

Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, use hands, fingers, feet, or operate objects, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. Employee must communicate clearly and effectively; must understand and be understood. On rare occasions, the employee may be required to climb and balance. The employee must occasionally carry, pull, push, or lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision acuity and the ability to adjust his or her focus, allowing a broad field of vision.

The maintenance of a valid license and a good driving record is required if the job duties require the operation of City vehicles or equipment or who must travel by motor vehicle in the course of City business.
