Our client is looking for a UX Digital Accessibility Specialist who is passionate about inclusive design and ensuring digital experiences meet accessibility standards. This role will serve as an advocate for accessibility, equity, and user-centered design, working closely with design, development, and QA teams to ensure products are built for all users, including those with disabilities.
This specialist will define accessibility strategies, conduct audits, and ensure compliance with WCAG, ARIA, and Section 508 standards. The ideal candidate is a problem solver with a keen eye for UX design and a drive to champion accessibility in technology.
Key ResponsibilitiesAccessibility Strategy & Leadership
- Define and drive the accessibility strategy for products and services.
- Advocate for inclusive design principles throughout the product lifecycle.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on accessibility, staying updated on standards such as WCAG, ARIA, and Section 508.
- Train team members on accessibility guidelines and user-centric design practices.
- Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to ensure adherence to relevant regulations.
Design & Testing
- Work cross-functionally with designers, developers, and product managers to incorporate accessibility best practices into product design.
- Conduct accessibility audits using tools like Axe and WAVE, along with manual testing.
- Create wireframes, prototypes, and design systems that prioritize accessibility.
- Document and communicate accessibility recommendations to stakeholders.
- Validate designs before and during development to ensure accessibility compliance.
- Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline.
- 3-5 years of experience in accessibility-focused UX/UI design.
- Proven experience in UI/UX design with a strong understanding of accessibility best practices.
- Section 508 Certification required.
- Experience working with assistive technologies such as screen readers, voice recognition software, and keyboard navigation.
- Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD.
- Knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1 or higher).
- Strong understanding of HTML, CSS, and ARIA landmarks (preferred).
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to manage both small-scale questions and large-scale accessibility reviews.
- Experience as a thought leader in the accessibility space.
- Experience setting up and managing large accessibility programs.
- Background in conducting user testing with individuals with disabilities.
- Experience working in the financial industry.
- Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC).
