The St. Edward Marching Eagles has a fantastic opportunity available for a Band Director for the 2025-26 Marching Band and Concert seasons. The Marching Eagles are a corps-style competitive marching band. They are consistent OMEA State Finalists, earning superior ratings at the state level for 9 of the last 10 years. They also compete in BOA and LMBA circuits most seasons, in addition to performing at most varsity football games and community events.
Duties of the Band Director include but are not limited to:
- Instruct and administer all aspects of the Marching Band, Symphonic Band, and Jazz Band while supporting the Mission of St. Edward HS.
- Teach one Concert Band course during the regular school day.
- Demonstrate and uphold the Mission of St. Edward High School, instilling a diverse culture of learning and respect among all students and band assistants.
- Hold band/concert auditions and determine the best spot for each student member.
- Establish performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student's eligibility to participate in band/concert.
- Choose music to be performed.
- Develop methods to recruit students from the grade schools, within our high school, and retain students for Band programs.
- Oversee the marching band staff, including recruiting, mentoring, and supervising the adult band stipend and volunteer positions.
- Teach during at-home band camp and away band camp.
- Teach and supervise at rehearsals and performances, administering corrective action steps when needed.
- Organize with the transportation coordinator transportation needs for band members and staff.
- Chaperone as needed at performances and on bus rides.
- Maintain accurate inventory of all band equipment, uniforms, flags, batons, etc.
- Determine and follow through with the maintenance, repair, cleaning, and storage of all band equipment and uniforms.
- Ensure the safety of students at all times.
- Supervise and meet with assistant band staff before and after each rehearsal to review the rehearsal’s performance and plan future rehearsals.
- Work with the Music Department Chair for all band expenditures, including stipend payments to band staff.
- Keep accurate records of all entry fees, expenses incurred by band, receipts, payments, and deposits, and submit to Finance as required.
- Serve as an advisor to the Band Booster association and liaison to school Administration.
- Work with school’s marketing to prepare news media and social media releases.
- Communicate regularly with the SEHS community the Band’s event schedule and Band’s standing in competition.
- Complete any additional tasks as necessary.
Job Requirements:
- Competition marching band experience preferred.
- Ability to demonstrate competency to lead the Marching Eagles.
- Experience working with drill writing software.
- Demonstrate a growth mindset for the continual development of the band and concert programs.
- Hold a valid Music Ohio teaching license.
- A bachelor’s degree in music education.
- Present an enthusiastic love of music and genuinely enjoy working with teens along with having a positive, professional image and an energetic demeanor.
Marching Band rehearsals are after school five (5) days a week. Performances occur at all home varsity football games, select away varsity football games, competitions, and parades throughout the season. Symphonic and Jazz Band start up once Marching Band concludes, again these are after school rehearsals.
