Operation hours/Days: 8 hours Shift (Monday - Friday)

Range Salary: 28.00 - $30.00 per hour

Job Description:

We are seeking a passionate and creative Animation Instructor to lead stop-motion animation and digital media classes tailored for individuals on the autism spectrum. The instructor will develop and deliver engaging, sensory-friendly lessons that enhance participants’ creativity, communication, social skills, and confidence. This role requires expertise in stop-motion animation, familiarity with digital media tools, and a commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Development and Delivery:

Design and Implement a curriculum focusing on stop-motion animation and storytelling.

Create high-quality stop-motion animation using traditional methods with physical models, puppets, sets, and props.

Adapt lessons to meet the unique needs and strengths of participants on the autism spectrum.

Work closely with the director and team to ensure animations align with project goals and storytelling vision.

Digital Art Creation & Enhancement:

Utilize digital art tools (such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and others) to create and refine textures, backgrounds, and assets for the animated films.

Teach students to incorporate digital elements into stop-motion projects to enhance visual storytelling, including visual effects and compositing.

Helped develop concept art, storyboards, and character designs that aligned with the aesthetic direction of the projects.

Post-Production and Editing:

Assist in post-production by editing, cleaning up, and refining animation sequences.

Ensure final renders meet the technical and artistic standards for the project, including color correction and visual consistency.

Instruction:

Teach stop-motion techniques, including character creation, set design, animation fundamentals, and post-production.

Incorporate digital media tools and software into lessons (e.g., Dragonframe, Adobe Premiere).

Classroom Management:

Foster a sensory-friendly and inclusive classroom environment.

Use visual aids, social stories, and hands-on activities to support learning.

Organize and maintain physical and digital assets, ensuring all elements are properly cataloged and stored for easy access and reference.

Troubleshoot and repair physical assets or puppets when necessary to maintain animation quality.

Collaboration and Communication:

Work closely with program staff and families to ensure participants’ success.

Provide regular updates on participants’ progress and achievements.

Showcase Preparation:

Guide participants in creating final projects for a public showcase event.

Ensure completed animations highlight participants’ creativity and hard work.

Skills & Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Animation, Digital Media, Special Education, or a related field.

Master’s degree or additional certifications (preferred).

Experience:

2+ years of experience in stop-motion animation, filmmaking, or teaching.

Prior experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum is highly desirable.

Skills:

Proficiency in stop-motion software (e.g., Dragonframe), and digital media tools. Strong knowledge of stop-motion animation techniques, including puppet making, set design, and frame-by-frame animation.

Proficiency in digital art and animation software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere), Blender, and other industry-standard tools.

A strong portfolio showcasing a blend of stop-motion work and digital art projects, demonstrating creative versatility and technical expertise.

Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Strong understanding of animation principles such as timing, weight, and anticipation.

Strong understanding of sensory needs and accommodations for neurodiverse learners.

Excellent communication, patience, and adaptability.

Work Environment and Schedule

Classes are held in a sensory-friendly studio equipped with animation tools and materials.

Partnerships with local businesses like Stew Leonard, TJ Maxx, and Marshalls have allowed the vision to grow exponentially. In addition, taking on residential programs has allowed us to serve those that need round-the-clock supervision. It's only the beginning. As we change lives every day, we change in the process.
