About the Role
As a Group Creative Director at Monks, your role is a "player-coach" within our creative teams. In practice, this means steering them towards excellence while also actively participating in hands-on creative development and production. This pivotal position requires you to navigate multiple responsibilities, serving as both creator and supervisor simultaneously. You orchestrate the flow of work, directing and passing to talented creatives when needed or taking charge to drive it home, all while maintaining a strategic overview. Your role is a delicate balance between being in the trenches with the team, yet also sitting higher and communicating effectively with clients and internal Monks executives to ensure alignment and success across projects. It's a challenging yet rewarding opportunity to bridge the creative and executive branches, both within our agency and with our valued clients. You will always be across multiple projects and clients.
Responsibilities:
  • Creative Leadership:
    • Drive creative direction across a range of projects, from email campaigns and social media content to UX playbooks and strategic documents. Develop compelling messaging, visual identities, and branding for both internal and external programs. Design and refine web assets, print materials, executive presentations, and motion graphics to ensure cohesive, high-impact storytelling. Align all creative work with client goals, brand standards, and industry best practices.
    • Lead, mentor, and develop creative directors and creative teams, fostering an environment that encourages innovation and excellence. Provide input into the allocation of creative resources and talent to ensure optimal team performance and project success.
    • Assist in promoting and advocating for the completion of creative department yearly goals.
    • When the project calls for it, be a creative contributor for ideation on high priority projects and pitches for key brands
  • Client Interaction and Collaboration:
    • Work closely with multiple senior and day-to-day clients and client teams to understand their vision and objectives. Present creative concepts and ideas persuasively. Foster strong relationships with clients, ensuring their needs are met and expectations exceeded.
    • Participates in new business pitches and organic new business development.
  • Strategy and Planning:
    • Collaborate with Strategy Directors to develop creative strategies that effectively address client challenges. Ensure that creative concepts are on-brand and strategically sound. Collaborates with Strategy Directors, Accounts and client PMM's in the development and creation of clear briefs.
  • Innovation and Creativity:
    • Contribute to the creative process from concept ideation to production, ensuring high-quality, consistent, and innovative work. Critique all major deliverables, ensuring they meet Monks craft standards. Participates and presents work alongside CDs in Executive Leadership reviews of pitches and in-production work.
    • Drive innovation and creativity, setting new industry standards and ensuring that the company's work is smart, creative, and innovative.
    • Champion the evolution of creative workflows by integrating AI Monks Flow, streamlining repetitive tasks for greater efficiency and speed. Identify opportunities to optimize processes, ensuring teams can focus on high-impact, strategic work while maintaining top-tier creative quality.
  • Team Leadership and Growth:
    • Direct and manage the creative team, including Creative Directors, Art Directors, Copywriters, Designers, UX/U, and motion specialists, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and Relentless Pursuit of Better.™
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including strategy, account management, and production, to ensure creative concepts are innovative, executable, and aligned with client objectives and brand guidelines.
  • Client Relations and Business Growth:
    • Lead and collaborate with CDs on pitches and organic new business development efforts. On critical, high-profile pitches, is expected to be hands-on and also deliver creative ideas.
    • Expected to be hands-on and contribute creatively as needed. Not afraid to roll up your sleeves when there are team gaps
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Oversee the creation of high-quality, impactful work, from campaigns to design to experiential work.
    • Ensures that the work is best-in-class and award worthy.
  • Industry Engagement:
    • Represent the company in public events, awards, and industry activities, maintaining a strong presence and reputation in the industry.
About You The essentials:
  • Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Fine Arts, Design, Advertising, or a related field.
    • A minimum of 10-12 years in the creative field and 5-7 years as a Creative Director, within the advertising and/or production industry on an international scale. A solid foundation in digital and campaign work is highly desired.
    • A strong portfolio showcasing a wide range of creative work for large B2B and B2C companies, preferably tech, including successful campaigns, experiential or events and interactive design work.
    • Proven ability to lead and inspire creative teams.
    • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
    • Deep understanding of brand, all things digital, and the latest creative and tech trends.

    • Strong leadership qualities, with the ability to motivate and guide teams. An inspiring and authentic leader who prioritizes team accomplishments and advocates for what the team needs to be successful in all forums, including client conversations, leadership meetings, governance meetings, QBRs, and annual planning meetings.
    • Capability to lead fast-paced pitches and drive complex projects to perfection, with an eye for both strategic and creative excellence.
    • Skilled in leading quick pitches as well as managing complex projects to excellence, balancing strategic and creative insights.
    • Resilient and adaptable, able to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
    • Confident, thoughtful, and an active listener who is consistent, vocal, and articulate. A team player with a positive attitude when facing challenges and difficult clients. Communicates in an honest, candid, respectful, and direct way.

Monks has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what Monks may pay for the position at the time of posting. Monks may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on job-related factors, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
