Position Description

EIP is seeking a Director of Marketing to lead and execute marketing strategy with a dual focus:

  1. Corporate Marketing: Positions EIP as a leading provider of energy efficiency and clean energy planning and program implementation services to utilities, government agencies, and industry partners. This includes marketing EIP’s expertise in program design, outreach, and impact delivery to drive business growth and secure new contracts.
  2. Program Marketing: Develops and executes targeted marketing campaigns to drive participation in multiple clean energy and energy efficiency programs EIP implements for clients. This includes engaging residential, commercial, and industrial customers, trade allies, contractors, and local communities to ensure program success.

This role will start by managing marketing resources efficiently through internal execution, vendor partnerships, and subcontracting. As EIP grows, the Director will build and scale the marketing function, including hiring and supervising a marketing team to support corporate growth and program outreach.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with experience in B2B marketing, energy efficiency, and customer engagement programs, capable of balancing high-level strategy with execution while scaling a team as business needs evolve.

Objectives of this Role

  • Increase Brand Awareness: Establish EIP as a leader in energy efficiency, decarbonization, and clean energy consulting.
  • Drive Program Participant Recruitment: Develop and execute targeted outreach campaigns to increase enrollment in energy efficiency programs.
  • Develop & Scale Marketing Resources: Start by managing vendors and contractors, then hire and develop an internal team as EIP grows.
  • Support Business Development: Align marketing strategies with EIP’s corporate growth and client acquisition goals.
  • Optimize Marketing ROI: Manage the marketing budget, vendor relationships, and performance analytics to maximize impact.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities

  • Marketing Strategy & Execution: Develop and execute multi-channel marketing strategies to drive engagement with utility and government clients.
  • Participant Recruitment & Outreach: Design and implement marketing campaigns to enroll our clients’ residential and businesses customers in clean energy programs.
  • Content & Brand Management: Oversee content development, branding, and corporate messaging to ensure consistency across all platforms.
  • Marketing Resource & Team Growth and Management:
    • Start by managing existing resources efficiently, including external vendors and contractors.
    • Assess resourcing needs and make strategic hires as the company expands.
    • Hire, train, and mentor a marketing team, ensuring long-term scalability.
  • Budget & Performance Management:
    • Track marketing spend and performance metrics to ensure cost-efficient campaign execution.
    • Continuously assess and optimize marketing tools, platforms, and automation solutions.
  • Business Development Support: Provide marketing collateral, presentations, and proposal materials to support RFPs and sales efforts.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Partnerships: Collaborate with utilities, government agencies, trade allies, and program partners to align marketing efforts with program goals.
  • Market Research & Competitive Analysis: Monitor industry trends and refine marketing strategies based on market shifts and customer insights.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Business, Communications, or related field.
  • Experience:
    • 7+ years in B2B marketing, demand generation, or program marketing.
    • 3+ years in a managerial role, overseeing marketing resources and execution.
    • Experience marketing to commercial and industrial customers, utilities, or government entities.
  • Project Management & Budgeting: Proven ability to develop and manage marketing resources cost-effectively.
  • Scaling a Team: Experience building and leading a marketing function, including hiring and training staff.
  • Digital Marketing Expertise: Experience with email marketing, digital advertising, SEO, and lead generation.
  • Vendor & Subcontractor Management: Strong track record of optimizing in-house vs. outsourced marketing efforts.
  • Content & Messaging Strategy: Ability to translate technical energy concepts into compelling marketing materials.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement: Comfortable working with business development, program teams, and external partners.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Skilled in marketing analytics, campaign tracking, and performance optimization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in energy efficiency, utilities, electrification, or sustainability marketing.
  • Proficiency in marketing platforms like HubSpot, Canva, Google Ads, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Knowledge of trade ally networks, contractor outreach, and customer engagement strategies.
  • Familiarity with demand-side management (DSM) programs and decarbonization initiatives.
  • Experience working with utility program marketing regulations and compliance.
