POSITION SUMMARY
The PR & Social Media Specialist enhances Lighthouse Credit Union’s brand by creating engaging organic social media content, earned media, and public relations initiatives, while collaborating with community partners and internal teams to promote community contributions, products, and services. This role also involves planning and executing internal and external events, managing multiple projects, and quickly adapts to shifting priorities, all while upholding our values of teamwork, respect, community commitment, and accountability. Reporting directly to the Director, Public Relations, the successful candidate will drive brand awareness and support our mission with innovative strategies and clear communication.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Understands the media landscape and has a pulse on cultural moments.
• Produces high-quality content in the form of announcements/press releases, pitches, speaking opportunity abstracts, award submissions, social media copy, etc.
• Identifies key influencers; manages influencer programs.
• Conducts reliable and accurate media research (editorial calendars, speaking opportunities, media/analyst list development) and provides teams with industry-relevant news and research.
• Develops and implements brand-specific organic social media playbooks that guide strategy, set KPIs and processes.
• Identifies, tests and adopts new social media marketing and community outreach opportunities.
• Develops and implements social media strategies and content calendars that are aligned with company goals, tap into cultural trends/moments as applicable, and ensure consistent messaging, brand positioning, brand tone and best practices across all platforms.
• Creates and oversees content sourcing, including:
- Translating brand ethos, social media strategy, and content calendar into effective creative briefs for content creation when applicable;
- Creating content from personally shooting (video and photography) at events, branch locations, etc.;
- Developing cohesive social media strategies for organic engagement, ensuring consistency in voice, tone and messaging across platforms including X, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.
• Implements and establishes tracking tools to report on engagement, effectiveness and impact.
• Consults on targeted paid social amplification in partnership with Growth Marketing Managers.
• Assists with planning and executing external and internal events.
• Attends, organizes, or works at company or community events as required, including occasional nights or weekends.
• Actively participates in team meetings, offering creative ideas/solutions.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
• Deep understanding of both organic and paid social media strategies, including difference between paid and organic algorithms, content optimization and paid amplification.
• Strong understanding of audience segmentation and targeting to reach key demographics and drive results.
• Ability to communicate effectively via both verbal and written communication.
• Action-oriented, energetic and welcomes challenges. Able to be a self-starter in an entrepreneurial-like environment
• Deals with concepts and complexity comfortably; intellectually sharp, capable and agile.
• Proven ability in written and visual storytelling to bring a brand to life and drive engagement
• Self-starter who takes initiative to proactively own and drive efforts

• Ability to effectively prioritize, manage change, and meet deadlines while delivering high quality work and communicate effectively

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
• BS or BA in PR, communications, marketing, or related field.
• 3 – 5 years of experience at an agency or in-house
• 3 - 5 years of experience managing social media strategies across multiple channels
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills. Someone who is comfortable being out in the community, picking up the phone, and being in a public networking setting.
• Enthusiastic, open-minded, adaptable, creative, and passionate about community involvement and relationship nurturing. A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
• Familiarity with financial services marketing is a plus but not required • Experience in building collaborative relationships
WORK ARRANGEMENT: The working arrangement for this position is hybrid, with 3 days in the office. Hybrid work is an opportunity to find the right balance between working in the office and remotely, especially if it supports individual success and the needs of our organization.
