Under direct supervision of the Assistant Library Services Director - Circulation, this position supports the mission of the library by providing access to resources, services, activities, and information of local interest that encourage life-long learning in our community. The Library Technician is responsible for assisting in the facilitation of daily library tasks and operations. Responsibilities include providing excellent customer service, providing assistance and guidance to library patrons, assisting patrons to utilize library services, and maintaining library resources.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
- Directs individuals to safe place during natural disasters.
- In the absence of the Director or Assistant Director, assesses building situations and contacts appropriate agencies to handle the situation. Assesses patron emergencies and gets attention when needed. Fills out incident forms.
- Participates in professional staff development. Participates in training and education opportunities to maintain and improve proficiency. Attends and participates in professional organizations. Associates with employees and departments from other counties and states for collaboration.
- Performs other related functions as apparent or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma/GED; AND
- A minimum of two (2) years post-secondary education; OR
- A minimum of two (2) years customer service experience working directly with customers in a fast-paced environment (food service, retail, etc.)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proficient in understanding and speaking languages other than English, such as Spanish, Somali, Chinese, Sudanese, and Arabic, among others.
- Experience working in a library
- Experience working in education
- Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to drive in the state of Minnesota.

- Must successfully pass a background check.
