The SVP is a dynamic and forward-thinking leader who will lead a team of licensing, business development, and investment professionals who collectively serve as the primary gateway for researchers seeking to commercialize their discoveries. The team will facilitate these efforts by connecting with the private sector through corporate-sponsored research collaborations, licensing discussions, or connections with entrepreneurs and investors to support startup company formation.This individual must be capable of fostering a culture of innovation at the intersection of academia and industry while effectively managing legal and financial considerations to drive the successful commercialization of intellectual property.Key ResponsibilitiesPrimary responsibilities include:Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for technology transfer and commercialization activities.Provide vision and direction to align the office with the broader goals and mission of the organization.Build and lead a multidisciplinary, high-performing team, fostering collaboration and a culture of innovation while providing mentorship and guidance to staff involved in commercialization, industry relations, and related functions.QualificationsThe SVP, Innovation Ventures will be an innovative leader with strong technical acumen and outstanding communication skills with the natural ability to interface and influence effectively across CHOP. The following experience and skills are critical:At least 10+ years of leading, managing, and/or supervising innovative development into successful commercial opportunities through development of start-ups, new business development or similar, preferably in an academic medical or research setting.Knowledge of drug and device development preferred.Demonstrated success in learning new areas of science and translating them into business opportunities preferred.EDUCATIONBachelor's Degree is required and Master's Degree and PhD are preferred.
