Grand Valley State University is a public university in Allendale, Michigan. It was established in 1960 as Grand Valley State College. Its main campus is situated on 1,322 acres, approximately 12 miles west of Grand Rapids. GVSU offers over 200 areas of study, including 82 undergraduate majors and 36 graduate programs that include 74 graduate emphases and certificate programs at the certificate, bachelor's, post-bachelor's, master's, post-master's, and doctoral levels.
The GVSU Lakers compete at the NCAA Division II level and offer 22 varsity sports, including 12 for women and 10 for men. The university participates in and is a founding member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
Position Summary:
Grand Valley State University Athletics seeks a Creative Assistant (Adjunct) for the 2025-2026 academic year. This position is renewed annually based on educational requirements and successful evaluation after the first year of employment. Position begins July 1, 2025.
Compensation:
$15,000 ($1250 per month) for a 12-month appointment, a full tuition waiver, and a parking pass.
Primary Duties:
GRAPHIC DESIGN:
- Responsible for development and management of design elements.
- Serve as a key strategist for the creation of engaging digital graphics to promote events, accolades, awards and recognition of GVSU Athletics.
- Conceptualization, design and production communication material, such as print collateral, signage, advertising, environmental graphics, and digital and interactive media.
- Create effective and accessible design elements for social media, websites, video boards and applications.
- Designs and collaborates on digital assets within sport specific branding as needed.
- Create concept compositions, graphic templates and layouts.
- Adhere to established brand guidelines.
VIDEO/PHOTOGRAPHY:
- Assist with video content for the promotion of GVSU Athletics.
- Creative content to tell the story of GVSU Athletics.
- Conceptualize, film and edit professional storytelling videos and/or photos.
LEADERSHIP:
- Assist in management of interns and part-time staff.
- Identify emerging trends as well as industry standards and incorporate into creative content.
- May occasionally work with outside production vendors.
- Collect, organize and execute creative content from multiple departments and manage varying projects simultaneously.
- Adhere to university, conference, GVSU Athletics and NCAA policies and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Some college coursework in Graphic Design, Communications, Digital Marketing or related major.
- Experience directly related creative design.
- High proficiency and demonstrated working experience in Adobe Creative Suite, primarily Photoshop, Illustrator, In-Design, After Effects and other photography software.
- Advanced knowledge of production techniques including graphics, photography, videotaping, lighting, editing methods and equipment.
- Working knowledge of social media platforms.
- Effective creative, verbal and written communications skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects.
- Efficient organizational skills and the ability to collaborate with a team.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance.
- Performs other duties as required/assigned by manager.
- Valid driver’s license. A MVR will be conducted upon hire.
Working Conditions:
- Morning, evening and weekend work is required.
- Working outdoors in various weather conditions is required.
- Some travel may be required.
- May work up to 29 hours per week.
