Job Description:
Blizzard Entertainment is looking for a talented and experienced Senior Editor for Story and Franchise Development’s Books team, in a temporary position. Story and Franchise Development focuses on developing Blizzard Entertainment’s universes through a variety of media, including animation, cinematics, illustrations, novels, comics, and more, working with both internal and external talent.
This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position, with some work on-site and some work-from-home. The potential home studio for this role is Irvine, CA. However, we understand each person’s circumstances may be unique and will work with you to explore other possible options, including remote work arrangements.
This is a 6-month temporary position.
What You Bring to the Table
As part of our Books team, you will help to create epic comics, short stories, and books that expand Blizzard’s publishing program in bold, new directions.
You will interface with talent as well as Blizzard’s internal stakeholders, including game, marketing, and consumer products teams, managing the creative vision for each assigned project. In addition, you will work directly with the editorial and design staffs of publishing partners on licensed projects.
The ideal candidate will have exceptional creativity and the ability to oversee the development of multiple projects, providing strong editorial feedback for various forms of published media.
Priorities can often change in a fast-paced environment like ours, so this role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:
- Pitch, develop, and edit multiple projects in a variety of formats including comics/graphic novels, prose novels, short stories, scrolling comics, and specialty books
- Independently handle all editorial duties on assigned titles, including:
- Craft the initial book concept
- Work with senior brand artist on artistic vision for the project, including a log of commissioned art notes
- Line edit outlines and 2-3 manuscript drafts per project
- Talent acquisition and management of authors
- Write copy for marketing needs, including metadata and cover copy
- Review each stage of art and design with senior brand artist and other stakeholders
- Review copyediting/proofreader changes as needed
- Support actors and directors as editorial contact in VO sessions for motion comics and audio stories
- Work with animators and VFX artists to direct and review animated assets and motion comics
- Build and maintain narrative lore knowledge on two of Blizzard’s live service games
Minimum Requirements
Experience
- 5+ years’ editorial experience
Knowledge & Skills
- Excellent organizational skills and a committed, detail-oriented approach to problem solving
- Able to communicate effectively across multiple teams, with excellent written and oral communication skills
- Able to collaborate and foster creative environments for colleagues, partners, and talent
- Industry knowledge of trends and competition
- Knowledge of story and book development from concept to final product in a variety of media
- Strong storytelling skills and the ability to provide constructive criticism
