Job Title: Technical Writer
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Technical Writer to join our team at New Way Trucks, a leader in the refuse truck manufacturing industry. This role involves creating, updating, and managing technical documentation to support our products, processes, and customers. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of technical concepts, excellent writing skills, and the ability to translate complex information into clear, user-friendly materials.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and Maintain Documentation:
Create user manuals, service guides, assembly instructions, and training materials for refuse truck systems and components. Ensure documents are accurate, well-structured, and tailored to the target audience (e.g., operators, maintenance personnel, engineers). - Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams:
Work closely with engineers, product managers, and manufacturing staff to gather technical information. Review technical specifications, CAD drawings, and schematics to ensure documentation aligns with product designs. - Standardize Communication:
Develop templates, style guides, and standardized formats for documentation. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations. - Visual Content Creation:
Collaborate with graphic designers or use design tools to integrate diagrams, charts, and other visuals into documents. Take photos or create illustrations for step-by-step guides. - Document Control and Updates:
Maintain version control of all documents and update materials based on design changes, feedback, or new product releases. Manage digital and physical repositories for technical documentation. - Support Training and Product Launches:
Assist in the creation of training content and presentations for internal teams and customers. Participate in product launch activities to ensure the availability of user-friendly technical resources.
Qualifications:
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Engineering, or a related field. - Experience:
2+ years of technical writing experience, preferably in manufacturing, automotive, or heavy equipment industries. - Skills:
Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills. Ability to interpret technical concepts and communicate them clearly to non-technical audiences. Proficiency with documentation tools (e.g., Adobe Acrobat, MS Office, FrameMaker) and familiarity with CAD software or 3D modeling tools is a plus. Strong organizational and project management abilities. - Knowledge:
Familiarity with mechanical systems, hydraulics, or electrical components is highly desirable. Understanding of safety standards, industry regulations, and quality systems.
