Hybrid / San Francisco, CA or Redwood City, CA

We’re on a mission to democratize AI by building the definitive AI data development platform. The AI landscape has gone through incredible change between 2016, when Snorkel started as a research project in the Stanford AI Lab, to the generative AI breakthroughs of today. But one thing has remained constant: the data you use to build AI is the key to achieving differentiation, high performance, and production-ready systems. We work with some of the world’s largest organizations to empower scientists, engineers, financial experts, product creators, journalists, and more to build custom AI with their data faster than ever before. Excited to help us redefine how AI is built? Apply to be the newest Snorkeler!

We’re seeking a highly experienced and innovative Principal UX/Front-end Engineer to join our team. In this role, you’ll drive the strategic direction of our front-end architecture, ensuring it is scalable, performant, and user-friendly. You will set the standard for UX excellence, mentor engineers, and collaborate closely with product and design teams to push the boundaries of what’s possible when building amazing and elegant interfaces that empower developers and non-developers to programmatically develop the data required to create modern AI applications. Using a combination of strong programming skills and a creative, user-focused mindset, you will have full ownership and responsibility for building, shipping, and maintaining innovative new functionality. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about creating exceptional user experiences and has exceptional skills in React and TypeScript.

  • Establish and maintain a robust front-end codebase, enforcing clean code principles and design patterns.
  • Mentor and guide junior and mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of learning and collaboration.
  • Proactively identify technical challenges and propose solutions to enhance the front-end ecosystem.
  • Evaluate and integrate new tools, frameworks, and technologies to improve development workflows.
  • Conduct code reviews, ensure high code quality, and contribute to the continuous improvement of the team’s technical skills.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve performance and production issues.
  • Work a hybrid schedule with at least three days per week in our Redwood City HQ or the SF office.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of professional experience in front-end development, with extensive experience in React and TypeScript.

  • Strong experience with state management libraries (e.g., Redux, React Context API).
  • Detailed understanding of RESTful APIs and integrating them into front-end applications.
  • Expertise in responsive design, adaptive design, and accessibility standards.
  • Experience with performance optimization for web applications.
  • Strong experience with front-end testing frameworks - Jest, React Testing Library, Playwright.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality, scalable, and maintainable front-end applications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Leadership skills and experience mentoring and guiding team members.
