Job Description:

Siena College is accepting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Communications beginning in Fall of 2025 to teach sports journalism in its growing Communications program.

The Communications Major is a curriculum providing theory and practice in the study of media and communications for students seeking a B.A. in one of four tracks: Journalism, Sports Communications, Political Communication, and Marketing Communications & Digital Marketing. The Sports Communications track provides theory and practice in sports journalism, and provides students with the opportunity to participate in the programming and production of the Athletic Department's ESPN3 content.

This position, a joint appointment between the Communications Program and the Creative Arts Department, will teach courses in the sports communications track: Sports Writing & Reporting, Sports Field Production I & II, and support the Communications core. Candidates also will be expected to assist with student advising and recruitment, and perform other service to the College. Annual Salary: $78,960.00 – Assistant Professor, $60,200.00 – Instructor

The hiring salary above represents the College’s good faith estimate at the time of posting in compliance with the Albany County Salary Transparency Law.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have a Master’s, Ph.D. preferred, in Communications or related field, prior college-level teaching experience, demonstrate scholarly achievement, and exhibit a commitment to undergraduate liberal arts education. Prior professional experience producing sports broadcasts, including shooting and editing video, is essential. A background screening will be required.
