Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit The School of Art at UNC Greensboro welcomes applications for a

tenure-track Assistant Professor in Animation

position beginning Fall 2025. With this position, the School of Art aims to expand its Animation program further at the undergraduate level, which fosters artistic excellence, nurtures next-generation storytellers, and prepares students for professional and creative achievement. Position Summary The successful applicant will teach 3 courses each semester, contribute to the Animation curriculum and engage in an ongoing dialogue about current practices in the field, advise and actively mentor undergraduate and graduate students and supervise student projects, actively recruit students to the program, conduct research and/or creative activity that contributes to the candidate's field of expertise to satisfy progress towards tenure, and provide service to the department, college, university and community.

The ideal candidate will have experience as a working professional in the field of 3D animation and/or game production. This could include a focus on one or multiple levels of asset creation, including 3D modeling, texturing, lighting, rigging and/or animation. Experience creating complex character models using digital sculpting tools, and/or advanced world building within Unreal Engine would be a plus.

Minimum Qualifications Either a Master's degree in Animation, Visual Art, Media Studies, or a related field at the time of appointment;

or

an equivalent record of professional experience in the field (more than 5 years) with notable professional achievement (Licenses and certifications, documented excellence in teaching, honors or awards, publications, presented papers, juried art activities/screenings, significant successful grants, etc.) Significant record of creative activity and/or professional experience in the animation/game industry Evidence of teaching experience (courses, workshops, mentoring, graduate assistantships, etc.) preferred; however, candidates with comparable, transferable skills and a dedicated interest in developing and establishing themselves as teachers are also encouraged to apply
