The Japan Consumer Innovation (JCI) team is seeking a Principal UX Designer who can transform complexity into elegant simplicity. As a passionate design leader, you'll shape the future of Amazon's vendor experience in Japan by creating intuitive data and AI-driven solutions. Your ability to develop long-term vision, collaborate across functions, and deliver exceptional customer experiences will be crucial in establishing a design thinking culture within the organization. Working closely with researchers, product managers, designers, and engineers, you'll not only launch innovative products but also mentor others and influence broadly across the organization. This is an opportunity to make a lasting impact on how thousands of vendors interact with Amazon Japan while building a strong design-first mindset throughout the team.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership:
- Establish and drive design vision and strategy across programs
- Present and defend design recommendations to executive leadership
- Partner with product and technology teams to scale innovations while maintaining UX principles
- Lead innovation initiatives, particularly in emerging technologies (AI, LLM)
- Design Excellence:
- Analyze customer problems and design solutions that meet business goals
- Define and maintain design standards, including accessibility guidelines
- Drive measurable improvements in user experience
- Standardize design systems and visual languages across verticals
- Team Development:
- Coach and mentor other UX designers/researchers
- Serve as a bar-raiser for design quality
- Build design thinking capability across the organization
- Foster effective cross-functional partnerships
- Innovation & Impact:
- Drive breakthrough experiences that challenge the status quo
- Identify and align scalable solutions across organizations
- Measure and validate UX innovations' effectiveness
- Embed design thinking into the product innovation lifecycle
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 10+ years of design experience
- Have an available online portfolio
- Experience with best practices for User Interface Design, Information Architecture, and Interaction Design
- Experience in life cycle design projects from design strategy through execution
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience providing and effectively communicating strategic and tactical recommendations based on data
- Experience designing and prototyping with tools such as Sketch, Photoshop, Illustrator, Axure, Keynote, and InVision
