A Brief Overview

Plans, develops, produces and measures results of internal and external content for all communications channels, campaigns and events designed to engage consumer, donor, employee and physician audiences for Children's Hospital & Medical Center, Children's Hospital & Medical Center Foundation, Children's Physicians, specialty clinics, Child Health Research Institute or associated entities. Creates and maintains editorial calendars, establishing guidelines for the tone, style and voice of all brand content. Writes clearly, concisely, creatively and accurately with minimal editing. Tells the overarching brand story as a journalist to drive conversations and raise brand awareness through the creation of targeted, multi-media content from concept to execution for all platforms and all audiences. Builds collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve organization goals. Meets project deadlines and budget requirements.

Essential Functions

Serves as communications liaison for assigned Children’s Nebraska, Children’s Nebraska Foundation, Children’s Physicians, Child Health Research Institute or associated entities.

Assists internal clients in developing and implementing communications strategy, using a full array of communication vehicles including printed materials, electronic, web-based, and social media. • Participate in planning internal and external communications needs, identifying areas of additional opportunity.

Edit, plan & coordinate communications for conferences, meetings and other events, with mail and electronic communications for each, as well as coordinating distribution lists, Beryl call center, postal requirements and payments.

Coordinate communication with employees, medical staff, referring physicians, donors and consumers. Use various software to write and edit stories for various communications channels.

Monitors the cost of projects and work assignments and ensures they remain within approved budget.

Measure results of content strategies and adjusts plans as needed.

Develops and edits content for internal and external communication vehicles (e.g., myChildren’s app, web, social media, videos, etc.) as assigned.

Collaborates with Marketing and Communications team to determine organization-wide communications strategy.

Conceptualizes, writes, edits, produces, and helps distribute content.

Supports events/meetings with promotional and event collateral and giveaways (e.g., NICU Reunion, sponsored walks, festivals, parades and other community events that raise brand awareness).

Serve on designated committees as a representative of marketing as assigned

Coordinates the design and production of communications materials with graphic artist, web/digital strategists, design agency, printers and other vendors. Ensures all communication materials meet quality standards, adhere to format requirements, comply with customer or organization specifications and are delivered on schedule.

Assists with corporate identification program by assuring that all materials are produced to corporate standards.

Lead and participate in the content creation and organization of designated materials.

Serves on media on-call rotation.

Responds to calls from the media during and after regular working hours, on weekends and holidays.

Responds to routine, sensitive or urgent information requests in accordance with organization policies and guidelines and HIPPA regulations.

Gathers information and escalates sensitive issues to appropriate management. Prepares and distributes media responses and press releases as needed.

Coordinates telephone directory advertising for hospital entities, ensuring accuracy in content and invoicing, as needed.

Education Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in journalism, public relations or marketing or related degree Required

Experience Qualifications

Minimum of three years writing and editing experience in a public relations/advertising agency or corporate marketing department Required

Skills and Abilities

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Ability to write clearly, concisely, creatively and accurately with minimal editing. Knowledge of writing feature articles, promotional copy, video scripts, speeches, news releases, web copy and social media posts as required.

Ability to plan, organize and meet deadlines with little supervision.

Excellent photography skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Working knowledge of web content management and editing tools.

Exceptional idea generation and problem solving abilities

Ability to work with multi-disciplinary team members to accomplish common goals / objectives.

Licenses and Certifications

Accreditation or membership in a professional organization such as the Public Relations society of America (PRSA), International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), or Society for Healthcare Marketing and Public Relations (SHMPR) Preferred

Occasional evening or weekend work may be required Required
