Job Description

The Spruce is seeking an Associate Editor to join our team! We are looking for a digitally-savvy content enthusiast with a passion for all things home—from design & decor, to DIY/projects, to cleaning and gardening. Day-to-day, you will be responsible for content execution, including assigning and editing new content, topline editing all content, partnering with SEO on all elements of content quality, producing and publishing new content in our CMS, updating existing content, sourcing freelance writers with category expertise, and tracking and analyzing the success of all editorial efforts.

Hybrid 3x a week- New York
In-office Expectations: This position is hybrid in-office, with the ability to work remotely for up to 2 days per week.

About The Position's Contributions

  1. Manage content from freelance writers to ensure editorial best practices and brand positioning are met; meet content production goals (35%).
  2. Make updates to existing content for accuracy, helpfulness, style, substance, cultural sensitivity, content quality, and fulfillment of intent; replace outdated images, as needed (20%).
  3. Work with the team on ad-hoc projects with the goal of improving content quality (20%).
  4. Participate in editorial meetings and pitch ideas based on SEO for new content (15%).
  5. Work with the editorial team to help shape and define editorial strategy, increase audience, and drive user engagement. Track competitive landscape to identify trends and opportunities within the space (10%).

The Role’s Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree; preferably in Journalism or Communications; or equivalent experience.

Experience: 2+ years of experience editing general interest or lifestyle content. Experience with content management systems and using web analytics tools.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, Certifications and Abilities: The ability to use data to identify topics of interest to a wide audience. Proactive, flexible team player with entrepreneurial energy, able to roll with the punches and take ownership in a fluid and fast-moving environment. Outstanding organizational skills and innate ability to pay attention to detail. The ability to work quickly, efficiently, and independently and collaborate with both remote editorial workers and in-house editorial team members. Strong writing, research, and copy editing skills, with the ability to transform articles from mediocre to amazing and to coach freelancers to do the same. Mastery of written English and ability to edit stories based on style guides and with SEO top of mind.

Pay Range

Salary: New York: $64,350.00 - $67,000.00

The pay range above represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position and may change in the future. Actual pay may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to work location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Dotdash Meredith’s total compensation package for employees.
