About the Texas Organizing Project (TOP): Founded in 2009, TOP has grown to one of the leading grassroots organizing operations in Texas, advancing racial and economic justice through community and electoral organizing. Our programs are anchored in the three largest metro regions of the state — Houston, Dallas and San Antonio. We are a membership-based organization with a base of over 300,000 community members and supporters who are reflective of Texas’ growing population – Black, Latino, millennial, low-moderate income families. Through on the ground organizing, grassroots leader development, direct action, policy advocacy and electoral engagement, we have made gains in policy solutions and public investments for neighborhood infrastructure, family sustaining jobs, affordable housing, public schools, health access, criminal justice reform, and immigrant rights. TOP also runs the largest independent electoral field operations in the state, activating over 200,000 voters of color each election cycle.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Texas Organizing Project has, in the last couple of years, been expanding our digital and communications efforts. As we continue to grow, it has become clear that our visual representation also needs to be further developed. At TOP, we see graphic design as visual storytelling that engages, informs, and inspires. We’re looking for a talented graphic designer who can take concepts and ideas and create visual representations, in both print and electronic media. The ideal candidate will have expert knowledge of current design software and be skilled in every step of the design process, from concept to final deliverable. Collaborating with multiple teams across the organization, the graphic designer should be able to take written or spoken ideas and convert them into a design that connects. The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of branding and marketing, and be able to find the right style and layout for every project.

Specific Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate, brainstorm, and strategize closely with department heads and the creative team to design campaign materials, including digital ads, social media graphics, web pages, presentations, newsletters, merchandise, promotional, and branding materials.
  2. Develop visually-compelling concepts that are aesthetically appealing and align with campaign messaging.
  3. Translate strategic direction into high-quality design within an established brand identity.
  4. Ensure all creative designs reflect the unique character and values of TOP, incorporating campaign typography, colors, and styles.
  5. Produce dynamic and creative artwork for various formats, including digital ads, print layouts, OOH (out-of-home), social media, and collateral materials.
  6. Maintain a consistent visual identity across all campaign materials while bringing fresh, creative ideas to the table.
  7. Post content that is created, to support campaigns and/or organizers, as needed.
  8. Participate in electoral organizing during election season on an as-needed basis, including canvassing/door knocking and phone banking.

Qualifications:

  1. Demonstrated commitment to racial and economic justice issues.
  2. Commitment to live out TOP’s values (solidarity, visionary, regeneration) and to do the challenging work of building a pro-Black organization.
  3. Ability to blend illustration, color palettes, and typography into cohesive and visually impactful designs.
  4. Proven experience in graphic design, ideally within advertising, social campaigns, or public awareness initiatives.
  5. Expert proficiency in Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), or similar software.
  6. A portfolio showcasing bold typography, visual storytelling, and a passion for creating work that resonates emotionally.
  7. Ability to adapt designs across different mediums — from digital to print.
  8. Ability to take direction, constructive input, and respond to briefs while providing original creative perspective.
  9. Enthusiastic, highly motivated, disciplined, and self-sufficient.
  10. Organizational and time-management skills for meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

TOP is an equal opportunity employer.
