Description

Under general supervision, the Graphics and Media Technician performs photographic, graphic design, printing and binding duties; and performs other related duties as required.

Examples of Duties
Duties Include But Are Not Limited To The Following:
Graphic Design
  • Designs logos and graphics for use in city publications, posters and other media in accordance with city style guide.
  • Creates PowerPoint and related presentations that involve inserting photographs, images and text.
  • Creates and reformats content for digital platforms.
Photography
  • Photography assignments require the ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays to record or document city-related events.
  • Drives personal vehicle to required locations to take photographs of city-sponsored events.
  • Photographs a variety of subjects; processes digital images into photos and electronic slides for publication and presentation purposes.
  • Creatively edits and manipulates digital images for print and electronic use.
  • Maintains digital equipment and recommends repair or replacement when necessary.
  • Maintains a collection of city photographs using a digital database.
Graphic, Printing and Binding
  • Operates color and black & white copiers to reproduce various materials.
  • Operates collator, cutters, paper drill, stitcher, and plastic comb binding equipment.
  • Cleans, services and makes minor adjustments to shop equipment.
  • May select paper stock for various projects.
  • Orders, stocks and maintains printing supplies.
  • Uses information technology for electronic design and preparation of routine printing assignments.
Qualifications
Education & Experience: Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical example would be an Associate’s Degree in Graphic Design, Communication or a closely related field and two years of experience with producing graphic and print matter for publication, and at least one year of photography experience. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a major in Graphic Design, Communication or a closely related field is highly desirable. Courses in photography are also highly desirable.

License: Possession of a valid Class “C” Operator’s license issued by the California State Department of Motor Vehicles and a good driving record.

Knowledge of: PC operation and software programs used in making, editing, cataloging and presentation of digital images; electronic design and page composition software; and state-of-the-art photographic practices and techniques.

Skills & Abilities: Electronically design and produce publications such as logos, flyers, brochures and certificates; use Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Canva and Photoshop software at an advanced level; perform photographic assignments using digital cameras; create a variety of media materials using various computer software programs; operate color and black & white copiers; plan, organize and schedule work effectively; communicate, interact, and work effectively with others.

Physical and Mental Demands: Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds, stand, walk, and sit for extended periods, climb ladders, and crouch to take photographs from various angles; operate cameras, computers, and duplication equipment; distinguish shades and colors; communicate orally and in writing; and hear and see within normal ranges. #J-18808-Ljbffr
