Founded in 1972 on the belief that students thrive when taught in the way they learn best, Denver Academy is one of the top schools in the nation dedicated to teaching diverse learners, including those with dyslexia and ADD/ADHD. DA’s innovative learning model is based on the balanced application of classroom management, information processing, and academic literacy. Small class sizes of 12-14 students facilitate differentiated instruction. Flexible placement and several academic levels within each core subject, including Honors classes and advanced coursework, allow faculty to teach to each student’s optimal level. Through this unique approach, students excel in their strengths while receiving the support they need in areas of challenge.
Accountability: Reports to Grade Level Dean / Head of High School Division
Position Description: The Denver Academy teacher is responsible for executing Denver Academy’s mission of inspiring and empowering diverse learners through student-centered, differentiated, and transformative education. This includes oversight and responsibility for students, program, and day-to-day operations in the classroom. The teacher is also responsible for communicating with parents and acting as a liaison with other division classrooms and the rest of the DA community.
Teaching Responsibilities:
Teaching:
- Maintains a safe and respectful learning environment
- Responsible for differentiating effective and purposeful lesson plans to meet the needs of diverse learning styles
- Works in partnership with Deans, Heads, and Program Team for effective delivery of the DA program and content
- Differentiates lessons to meet diverse learning styles
- Stays current with the DA program
Management:
- Effective communication with parents
- Conferencing as needed with parents during scheduled conference times
- Maintain electronic attendance and gradebook system
- Supervision before school, during lunch, and after school
- Responsible for testing and assessment
- Responsible for updating student files and anecdotal records
- Responsible for completing grades and report cards before deadlines
Leadership:
- Models professionalism in the classroom and amongst the division
- Positively represents the DA community
- Models conflict resolution at all levels
- Models respect and responsibility
Additional Responsibilities (as appropriate):
- Committees
- School functions, such as Enrollment Open Houses, Dances, Plays and Sporting Events; High School Information Night, Back to School Night, New Parent Orientation, Saturday School
- In-service attendance and teacher training
- Additional job-related responsibilities as needed
