Assistant Divisional Music & Arts Director

Location: The Salvation Army Georgia Divisional Headquarters, Norcross, GA 1000 CENTER PLACE 30093

About this opportunity:

Assists the Divisional Music & Arts Director in promoting the development, improvement, and advancement of music, dance, and drama for worship. Instructs, encourages, and guides various Salvation Army ensembles with their involvement in worship and evangelistic outreach in the Division. Plans, administers, and conducts various music and creative arts seminars, camps, institutes, conferences, etc. Travels throughout the division to assist local corps in developing music and/or creative arts programs. Performs music and/or creative arts selections to support various worship services, divisional events, and fundraising efforts.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assists the Divisional Music & Arts Director in planning, overseeing, and administering Divisional programs and activities that support the objectives of the Music & Arts department; initiates and implements new programs and activities with the approval of DHQ and Corps Officers.
  • Assists in planning, coordinating, and executing the annual Kimball Meeks Music & Arts Conservatory; helps with the hiring process and supervision of counselors/instructors; teaches various subjects.
  • Assists in planning, coordinating, and executing the annual Georgia Music Institute; teaches various subjects.
  • Leads various divisional music and/or creative arts ensembles, including recruiting personnel, selecting repertoire, leading rehearsals, planning ministry trips, and overseeing all administrative aspects.
  • Promotes music programming throughout the Division and ensures the evaluation of programs on a continual basis.
  • Develops and promotes leadership training material and seminars presented at Local Officer Trainings, Conservatory, and other Divisional Events.
  • Arranges, composes, writes, creates, and/or choreographs special selections as requested for various Divisional events and activities.
  • Assists with the planning, setup, and execution of audio and video elements for various Divisional Events.
  • Produces audio and video content for various Divisional Events, including filming, editing, and post-production.
  • Travels to various Salvation Army Corps in the Division for the development of music and creative arts programs.
  • Provides counsel and assistance to Local Officer music and creative arts leaders at Corps across the Division.
  • Facilitates various music and/or creative arts leadership cohorts, arranging for training and discussion.
  • Provides field service to the Corps for the development of resources for worship through music and creative arts.
  • Develops strategies to generate program participation and trains leaders at assigned Corps.
  • Performs in music and/or creative arts ensembles to promote goodwill and raise awareness for The Salvation Army.
  • Oversees proper record keeping and reporting including activities and events conducted, participation figures, and notable achievements.
  • Maintains divisional music and arts library and inventory of all divisional music and arts supplies.
  • Distributes music and arts related materials and suggestions.
  • Uses social media and online platforms to promote Divisional programs and initiatives.
  • Participates in appropriate Divisional & Territorial events, committees, and activities.

What we are looking for in you:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in music education or performing arts, or a related field.
  • Two years’ practical experience in music and creative arts programming, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • This position requires a Salvationist in good standing with The Salvation Army participating at a local Corps.
  • Valid State Driver’s License.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to meet attendance requirements, read, write, and communicate in English, and read and hear music notes. Proficiency in an applicable performing arts medium. Ability to travel throughout the Division. Conducts all duties with an understanding of The Salvation Army's mission and Christian principles.
