The Public Relations Manager at Oklahoma Natural Gas is responsible for creating and maintaining a positive public image for the company. This role involves developing and implementing communication strategies, serving as a spokesperson, and engaging with key stakeholders to enhance the company's reputation. It requires understanding different audiences, crafting effective messaging, managing media relations, and maintaining clear communication with customers and the communities served in Oklahoma.
What You Will Do
- Responsible for creating and maintaining a favorable public image for a division by communicating programs/services, accomplishments, and points of view.
- Assist in the development of communications strategies and deliverables to effectively communicate the company's position on legislative, environmental, regulatory, operational, or other issues to external stakeholders including the media.
- Identify key audiences and determine the best way to communicate to them.
- Develop and implement programs and activities designed to enhance positive relationships and strengthen the credibility and reputation of the company and its employees.
- Oversee responses and respond to direct inquiries from media representatives, customers, city leaders, and others concerning company activities.
- Write interesting and effective press releases, prepare proactive pitches, and prepare information for media kits.
- Serve as company spokesperson and develop key messaging.
- Collaborate to create communications for both internal and external audiences.
- Coordinate the development of reports, publications, and videos to reach targeted audiences and ensure the most effective use of company resources.
- Develop/maintain company social media page related to incidents and outages and proactive storytelling related to operations.
- Provide information, assistance, and training to officers, managers, employees, customers, civic and professional organizations, and others.
What You Will Need
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, public relations, business, or other related field and the following job-related experience.
- Demonstrated experience serving as a spokesperson and pitching stories to the media.
- Experience developing news releases, external talking points, media relations plans, community event/meeting participation, and other content.
- Strong experience developing and executing communications strategies to reach targeted audiences and enhance company reputation.
- Experience using social media to target messaging to key audiences including reporters, community leaders, and other key influencers.
- Experience in use and function of office equipment including microcomputers and applicable software.
- Deep knowledge and experience related to journalism/writing for mass media, preparation of speeches or special programs, use of Microsoft Office Suite applications, use of social media platforms, public speaking/interpersonal communication skills, storytelling, organizational structure and system operations, communications equipment (video/audio/photographic), and communications mediums (print/electronic).
- Experience researching, developing, and making formal presentations.
- Experience analyzing and interpreting company policies and procedures, governmental regulations, rate schedules, legal documents, proposals, financial information, and publications.
- Strong experience researching and composing reports, recommendations, publications, scripts, speeches, and correspondence.
- Experience providing guidance, direction, and training; knowledge of personnel policies and procedures.
- Experience interacting, advising, and communicating effectively.
- Read and write fluently in English.
- Applicable driver's license. Requires travel to other company offices and field locations.
- Mobility to travel in and around office and outdoor environments and to a variety of work sites.
- Visual ability to perform job responsibilities.
