Overview
The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) will be responsible for providing non-promotional scientific, educational, and research support for the company and their CNS portfolio in the Southern territory, which comprises Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee. The MSL position is a field-based member of the Medical / Clinical Affairs team. The MSL should be highly trained in a healthcare field and well-versed in clinical and basic science to deliver cutting-edge data and technical/practical education to Health Care Professionals (HCP).
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain relationships with key CNS experts and build a well-informed advocacy base for the company's CNS franchise, including compounds in the development program.
- Act as a conduit for providing accurate and updated clinical, scientific, and medical information to Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) in Epilepsy, CNS/Neurology, Health Care Professionals, treatment decision makers, and other members of the scientific, provider, and payer community.
- Maintain business and clinical knowledge of the Epilepsy treatment landscape, including current treatment strategies, current and pending competitors, and new therapeutic developments.
- Increase the company's visibility among leaders in the therapeutic field of Epilepsy and CNS/Neurology.
- Identify, establish, and maintain collaborative relationships with key Epilepsy/Neurology experts, investigators, and institutions strategic to product development.
- Participate in medical education for healthcare professionals through presentations at office visits, investigator meetings, advisory boards, medical meetings, and other appropriate venues.
- Collaborate with clinical teams and CRAs to coordinate and optimize educational and research support for sites/investigators participating in the company's clinical trials.
- Respond to unsolicited requests regarding interest in investigator-sponsored studies (ISS) and support ISS submissions through appropriate internal processes.
- Provide effective clinical presentations to internal and external audiences and tailor presentations to meet specific needs of the audience.
- Identify and communicate key clinical and research issues and insights from industry leaders to appropriate departments.
- Facilitate the identification of medical community educational needs around Epilepsy management.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders in support of Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs).
- Maintain clinical expertise through comprehensive education, including attendance at relevant symposiums, scientific workshops, and review of key journals.
- Maintain appropriate communication with Medical, Regulatory, and Legal personnel within the company.
- Adhere to regulatory and compliance guidelines and company policies in all aspects of scientific dissemination of information.
- Enhance clinical/scientific knowledge of customers and colleagues through education and appropriate scientific exchange.
- Work collaboratively with relevant internal stakeholders to identify local/regional educational gaps/needs.
- Provide field updates regarding topics of interest.
- Address administrative and reporting needs on a timely basis or as requested by management.
Qualifications
Educational Requirements:
- MD, Pharm D, Nurse Practitioner, or PhD Degree with appropriate clinical experience.
- Industry and/or clinical experience in the fields of Epilepsy and/or CNS/Neurology highly desirable.
- Must be willing/able to travel 50%+, including domestic and international travel as needed.
Experience:
- Knowledge and experience in medical neurosciences (Epilepsy/Movement Disorders) preferred.
- Preferred previous pharmaceutical industry experience.
- Clear understanding of regional medical practice and clinical decision-making regarding patient care.
- Ability to identify unmet medical, educational, and research needs within the regional medical community.
- Interpretation of key scientific data and ability to translate this information to meet educational and research needs.
- Demonstrated ability to address educational and research needs through delivery of cutting-edge scientific/evidence-based data.
- Understanding of healthcare systems affecting patient care.
- Understanding of the design and execution of research studies.
- Exemplary communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to think strategically.
