Library Associate II - Patron Experience

Position Summary:
The Library Associate II Patron Experience will provide excellent customer service to patrons of all ages at all service points. They will assist the PX Librarian/Collection Specialist with organizing, maintaining, and promoting the collection. The Library Associate II will also assist with coordination and supervision of volunteers, and work on PX initiatives. Evenings, weekends, and out of library hours are required. Responsibilities:
Serve the general public in a friendly, professional manner.
Provide services to patrons of all ages at all public service points.
Assist PX Librarian/Collection Specialist with branch collection organization, maintenance, and deselection. Coordinate and collaborate with Collection Services staff throughout the system.
Create and maintain displays and reading lists to promote materials in the collection for all age groups. Create reading lists and other content for the branch and/or social media use.
Assist with PX initiatives by working to create engagement opportunities for patrons.
Work to ensure that the library's spaces are comfortable, attractive, stimulating, and welcoming.
Work with other staff on coordination and supervision of volunteers.
Exercise independent judgment and initiative in organizing and prioritizing work.
May orient, train, assign, schedule, and check the work of other staff members.
Serve as resource person for other staff members.
Act as Staff-in-Charge in the absence of the Branch Manager and Department Heads.
Enforce Code of Conduct and other policies/procedures proactively and impartially.
Operate and troubleshoot various pieces of office equipment including computers
Work performed may have an impact on library finances, operations, and relationships with other entities.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree preferred; high school graduate or equivalent with some college required.
At least 2 years experience in library work or a related field preferred.
Excellent customer service and communication skills.
Interpersonal skills to effectively deal with the public and coworkers in a positive, professional manner.
Self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision, independently and with a team.
Ability to organize and prioritize work and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Must be detailed oriented.
Requires ability to handle patron complaints and handle difficult situations involving patrons.
KDLA certification or ability to obtain certification (if working 100+ hours per month).
Experience using windows-based PCs and software; Internet and e-mail experience; experience with electronic databases and resources, and eBooks. ability and willingness to learn, adapt to and teach new technologies.
Light to moderate physical demands including the ability to bend, kneel, reach to retrieve library materials and carry items weighing 20-30lbs, and can push book trucks or bins weighing 100lbs.
