Description

Join Bloomsbury Academic in overseeing and developing the publicity outreach for the US market, working with our global publicity team to bring Bloomsbury Academic authors, books, and initiatives to the widest possible readership. The ideal candidate will utilize new and traditional media connections to execute high caliber publicity campaigns across a wide-ranging list and serve as a key contributor on new title acquisitions and go-to-market plans.

The ideal candidate will have experience strategizing on and executing high profile campaigns from start to finish with the ability to pivot and be nimble as the news cycle and opportunities develop. Candidates should have a well-established network of national broadcast, podcast, print and online media contacts, management and leadership experience, and success in working in a deadline-driven environment. This role includes the mentorship and management of three staff, with responsibility for fostering their professional growth and ensuring the team's collective achievements.

Key Responsibilities

Be responsible for all publicity activities for Bloomsbury Academic titles to ensure success in the US market (e.g. lead the team to develop compelling and unique angles, write dynamic pitch letters and press releases, coordinate galley and finished book mailings, book top-tier national and local media, schedule impactful author events, organize publicity updates for sales teams) Work with the US publicity team to develop talking points with authors and support authors in developing op-eds, essays, and feature ideas Foster and maintain relationships with key broadcast, podcast, print, and digital media contacts Participate in seasonal pitch meetings with key US media contacts to strengthen relationships and seed early coverage Regularly present at sales and marketing meetings. Read proposals for acquisition and evaluate potential from a publicity perspective, attending meetings with prospective authors as needed Work in close partnership with US and UK Publicity, managing the US Publicity team and assigning roles and campaign responsibilities that work with the UK publicity strategies and schedules Work in close partnership with US and UK Marketing, Sales, and Editorial teams to deliver best in class author and partner care Supervisory Responsibilities

The candidate will supervise a team of three people.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree, preferably a Master's degree 7+ years of hands-on book publicity experience, with an emphasis placed on booking top-tier media in both traditional and digital outlets Have a deep knowledge of regional and national media; an extensive network of contacts among broadcast and podcasts, print and online publications, social media influencers, and bookstore and large lecture venues Solid understanding or interest in the academic and/or publishing industry Exceptional communication (written and verbal) and pitching skills Proven ability to generate creative angles and pitches Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, to meet tight deadlines and changing priorities in a collaborative team environment Excellent organization skills and attention to detail Energetic, collaborative, flexible, creative, and self-starting Location

The candidate must be able to work a hybrid schedule from our NY or MD offices, though exceptional remote candidates will be considered.
