User Experience Designer-AITS- (Hybrid/Remote)
Job Summary Apply user-centric design principles, methodologies, and techniques to develop interactive experiences for enterprise web applications, websites, and mobile apps. Work closely with users, analysts, developers, and quality assurance testers to help develop application design specifications for the user interface as well as evaluate and test application usability and accessibility. Responsibilities include conducting focus groups, research industry best practices and trends, developing wireframes and interaction models, as well as providing recommendations for the organization of information delivery and access in web and mobile applications. Duties & Responsibilities Perform analysis and requirements gathering for data organization, display, and user interaction with web applications, websites, and mobile applications. Conduct surveys, focus groups, user interviews, and test sessions to identify design elements, application behavior and screen navigation that will help create intuitive and well-designed user interfaces for applications. Consult with clients to identify, analyze, refine, and document business requirements and processes and develop associated solutions. Apply principles of user-centered design to the development and documentation of web applications, websites, and mobile apps, using methods that may include design patterns, wireframes, prototypes, user research, and usability evaluations. Design web and mobile applications to ensure the best possible experience for users. Communicate ideas, requirements, application behavior, and design concepts through written and verbal communications including presentations, mockups, wireframes, and interactive prototypes. Use principles and best practices of website design and development to ensure that user interface designs are accessible and meet state accessibility laws. Create the visual design for web applications, websites, and mobile apps. Work on front-end interfaces from designs using frameworks such as Foundation, Bootstrap, etc. Provide project management and leadership for small projects and initiatives, including: Provide coaching and mentoring to staff members, monitor and evaluate work products of team members for quality and adherence to standards, research industry trends and best practices to stay up to date on technologies, standards, and usability and design techniques. Present findings and make recommendations, analyze and design websites and applications based upon standards and practices established through the AITS SDLC as well as Application Development and Support (ADS) department standards and guidelines, provide estimates for assigned tasks for analysis and design activities, participate in technical information sharing opportunities with fellow team members, contribute to, and help maintain, web development standards. Collaborate with project team members to implement new systems and enhance existing ones. Interpret complex requirements and communicate with customers from both technical and non-technical backgrounds. Use principles and best practices of website design and development to ensure that user interface designs are accessible and meet state accessibility laws. Perform other related duties as assigned appropriate for a Senior User Experience Designer. Minimum Qualifications
1. High school diploma or equivalent. 2. Any one or any combination totaling two (2) years (24 months) from the following categories: a. College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent: 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months), Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months), 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months), Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months) b. Work experience in IT-related functions, such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field. 3. Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position may be required. Preferred Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree in computer science, information science, human-computer interaction, information architecture or related field . 2. Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and web development tools and techniques. 3. Experience with gathering data to assist with making data-centric decisions. 4. Experience with mobile application user interface design including responsive design for web applications. 5. Experience within a university or large enterprise environment. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of user experience (UX) design principles. Proficient in multiple design tools, such as Sketch, InVision, Balsamiq, Illustrator, Photoshop. Strong project, analysis, and research skills. Excellent verbal and written communications skills to effectively interact with University and departmental officials/staff. Excellent problem-solving skills to address difficult, complex issues. Strong interpersonal skills that reflect courtesy, diplomacy, and a collaborative approach to develop and maintain effective work relationships. Ability to work independently and to exercise good judgment and discretion in the performance of all work assignments. Ability to multi-task and prioritize work accordingly to meet deadlines while staying on task with daily assignments.

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5031 - Information Technology Technical Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 3/31/2025. The budgeted salary range for the position is $80,000 to $100,000.Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience,while also considering internal equity.
