General Summary:
The Sacramento SPCA Marketing & Communications Team is looking for a creative and team-oriented individual to contribute graphic design and digital communication support. The Marketing Design Assistant will report to the Marketing & Brand Specialist and help execute the brand vision through design and marketing projects that enhance the shelter's identity and boost community awareness and support.
Essential Job Functions:
Complete high-quality projects in a timely manner that will be integral in making sure fundraising, outreach, education, and marketing meet annual strategic goals. Ensure brand guidelines and standards are consistent across all content. Understand the Sacramento SPCA's mission, brand, culture, and personality and how the organization positively impacts the surrounding community. Design, create, and edit promotional and educational materials for print and web mediums using Apple and Windows computer systems equipped with the Adobe Creative Suite. Create marketing emails for scheduled newsletters, appeals, and event communications. Oversee project progress with printing vendors including signage, screen printing, and offset. Communicate with website maintenance technicians to resolve errors and implement new project requests. Track and record engagement initiatives and conversion data. Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
Must be punctual and maintain regular, predictable attendance. Must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all the employer's safety policies and rules and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel. Assist other departments/staff with special events, community events as needed. Assist with other duties as assigned. Requirements
Requirements, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must have two years of experience working with Adobe Creative Suite programs including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Must possess strong attention to detail. Must be able to work in a team and can professionally receive feedback on projects. Current portfolio displaying recent work and skills. One year of experience working on graphic design projects in a professional setting preferred. Working knowledge of Canva and its collaboration tools preferred. Knowledge of the principles of graphic design, color, typography, layout, and print & web production techniques preferred. Knowledge of email marketing platforms like Mailchimp preferred. Two years of experience working with printing vendors preferred. Experience with website content management systems like Drupal or WordPress a plus. Experience with domestic animal care and handling a plus. Education and Experience:
High School Diploma Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or related field preferred. Equivalent experience in place of a degree can be considered. Physical Requirements:
Any allergic condition that would be aggravated from exposure or through contact with animals or chemicals used to sanitize facilities, vehicles or equipment, may be a disqualification. Must stand, walk, sit, bend and stoop frequently to perform duties. Have the ability to perform prolonged strenuous physical activity, including lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds alone or up to 100 pounds with the help of fellow employees for short distances. Working Conditions:
May be exposed to hostile or abusive members of the public. Must be able to deal with an often times emotion-charged public and carry a fast paced and changing work load which at times can be stressful. By nature of the industry, there may be occasional exposure to dead, injured, sick, unruly, vicious, and/or dangerous animals in addition to exposure to parasites and to infectious diseases. This is a collaborative position that will share an office with the Marketing & Brand Specialist.
