Overview
The Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp. is seeking a dynamic Senior Director of Public Relations to lead strategic communications efforts. This role focuses on securing impactful media coverage to promote Nashville as a premier tourism destination. As part of the Marketing team, this role reports to the Chief Marketing Officer. The position requires a blend of high-level strategic thinking and hands-on execution of day-to-day activities including strong writing and editing skills. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is both a team player and a leader. This is a full-time, Nashville-based office position.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Media Relations:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive public relations strategy that elevates Nashville’s image as a top tourism destination and helps drive visitation.
- Proactively secure feature stories and high-profile media placements with regional, national, and international outlets.
- Lead and facilitate group and individual press trips as well as proactively pitching Nashville to media including travel, lifestyle, entertainment outlets and more.
Leadership & Collaboration:
- Serve as a key member of the marketing leadership team, collaborating with executives and other marketing departments to ensure integrated communications and cohesive messaging.
- Partner with external agencies to align PR strategies with broader marketing and tourism goals.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key media contacts and industry partners and influencers.
Goal Management & Reporting:
- Establish clear, measurable objectives for media engagement and public relations initiatives.
- Monitor performance metrics, track progress against targets, and adjust strategies to maximize impact and ROI.
Team Development:
- Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing public relations team, ensuring continuous professional development and alignment with organizational goals.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
Professional Experience:
- A minimum of 10 years of PR experience.
- Proven track record in securing high-impact media coverage on a regional, national, and international level.
- Experience working with external agencies and cross-functional internal teams.
Industry Expertise:
- Deep understanding of the tourism and hospitality industry, with a passion for promoting destination brands.
