Enrichment Programs is seeking a passionate and experienced individual to join our team as a Lead Teacher in K-12 Library Media. This role is pivotal in:

  • shaping the direction of library media instruction in the district,
  • fostering collaboration among educators, and
  • driving continuous improvement in district-wide teaching practices.
In this role, you will have the chance to inspire creativity, collaborate with colleagues, and make a positive impact on the literacy development and information literacy skills of both students and library media staff members across IPS, ensuring that our practices support and honor students of diverse backgrounds.

Position Overview and Role Responsibilities:

As the Lead Teacher in K-12 Library Media, you will play a multifaceted role, combining your expertise in library media education with leadership responsibilities that extend beyond the classroom. Expected duties may include:
  • Planning and leading professional development for certified media specialists and/or classified media assistants
  • Leading and participating in the design, revision, and review of district curriculum
  • Providing support, answering questions, and mentoring classified media assistants
  • Participating in instructional walks, instructional observations, and coaching cycles with the District Media Coordinator
  • Collaborating on literacy events both in the district and in our local community
Your role will also include seeking innovative approaches to support the professional growth of district library media educators. Your work as K-12 Library Media Lead Teacher will help shape the library education experience for students at all grade levels.

Qualifications:
  • Valid teaching license/certification in School Media Services/Library Media
  • Proven experience in library management and instruction in IPS
  • Overall evaluation rating of effective or highly effective for a minimum of two consecutive years
  • Exhibit strong leadership among peers, especially tied to collaboration and work within teams
  • Excellent communication skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing, responding through email, phone calls, messages, etc.)
  • Confident speaker and able to lead professional development sessions
  • Willingness to model instructional practices and classroom management strategies for peers in your own school as well as in schools around the district and at District PD
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying informed about current trends in librarianship, with a focus on promoting equity and inclusion
  • High level of skills in current technology used in district libraries in an instructional setting (Schoology, Google, Outlook, Teams, etc.)
  • Curious and open-minded about new approaches to librarianship as well as new technologies and apps/websites that might engage students
  • Some availability as agreed on between lead teacher and District Media Coordinator during after-school hours to help with events and tasks
  • Some availability (as agreed on by lead teachers building principals) during the school day to help with events, tasks, and instructional coaching

Compensation:
