Norris School District is accepting applications for a Vocal Music Director (Middle School) and Assistant Vocal Music Director (High School) for the 2025-2026 school year. The individual selected will serve both buildings. The Norris Music Department strives to develop student talent and musical knowledge in vocal and instrumental music. The candidate chosen to fill this position will work closely with music educators in both the middle and high schools in planning program curriculum. Program specifics include:
  • Base pay 2025-26: $40,900
  • Full single or family insurance through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska
  • 88 hours (11 days) unspecified leave per year
  • Additional benefits including paid parental leave, dental, vision, and life insurance, etc.
  • All years of experience and relevant graduate credit applied towards salary advancement
  • Assistant Vocal Music stipend at 10% of the base salary
    • Multiple active show choirs
    • Annual student musical
Required qualifications: certified or ability to be certified as a secondary vocal music teacher; show choir director experience.

TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Instructs classes in vocal music so that students develop individual and group performance skills and an understanding of music.
  • Leads effective instruction in a classroom setting.
  • Effectively conducts rehearsal and performances.
  • Presents performances of high musical quality for the school and community in which groups are well-disciplined and make a good appearance.
  • Evaluates each student's growth in skills, knowledge, and contribution in the music curricular area.
  • Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of all students.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the classroom.
PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district, and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Works cooperatively with other music teachers at the middle and high school levels in planning a balanced vocal music program.
  • Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which he/she will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
  • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping students solve problems.
  • Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
  • Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Selects and requisitions consumable supplies, equipment, and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.
  • Maintains control of storage and use of school-owned property.
  • Participates in the curriculum review process and other professional development programs.
  • Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
  • Performs other duties as needed, as assigned by the supervisor.
