Compunnel
Position Summary:
The Sr. Design Specialist II will support program initiatives by creating innovative and practical mechanical and electro-mechanical concepts and designs for components, assemblies, tools, and products of varying complexity. The role requires collaboration with engineering, vendors, manufacturing, quality teams, and customers to ensure design specifications meet expectations. The specialist will also ensure designs are free of layout process defects and may assist engineers in defining design standards and configurations. This role demands proficiency in Computer Aided Design (CAD), especially Creo 9, and experience with Model-Based Definition (MBD).
Key Responsibilities: Create innovative mechanical and electro-mechanical designs for components, assemblies, tools, and products, ensuring alignment with functional and operational requirements. Collaborate with engineering, vendors, manufacturing, quality, and customers to ensure accurate design specifications. Develop highly innovative concepts for existing product lines and new product development programs. Ensure that CAD models transition smoothly to modeling and simulation software. Prepare complex design layouts, schematics, test plans, procedures, and specifications that meet system and integration requirements within cost and producibility constraints. Prepare drawing packages adhering to military or equivalent ASME standards. Review completed engineering documents for compliance with engineering, military standards, procedures, and specifications. Perform tolerance analysis and use Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) techniques. Check completed layouts, drawings, test plans, and change history documentation for clarity, completeness, and compliance with standards. Work closely with systems engineers to ensure designs satisfy contractual requirements. Evaluate the producibility of designs, including appropriate tolerances, fits, finishes, and materials. Provide expert technical consultation to the division and customer community regarding design and engineering issues. Required Skills and Qualifications:
Proficient in tolerance analysis and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). Extensive experience using Creo CAD software (minimum of 9 years). Strong knowledge of military drawings, specifications, and MILSPEC/STD standards. Solid understanding of product lines at the component, subsystem, and system levels. Knowledge of production methods and human factors. Ability to create and review complex CAD models, designs, and drawings. Strong experience preparing and reviewing design documentation for accuracy, compliance, and clarity. Excellent collaboration skills with engineering teams to ensure designs meet contractual and integration requirements. Preferred Skills:
Experience with Model-Based Definition (MBD). Previous experience in the defense industry, especially with Client Systems Combat Vehicle projects. Familiarity with applicable MILSPEC/STD's for defense-related designs. Experience Required:
Minimum of 9 years of design and drafting experience using Pro-E/Creo CAD system, including 5 years of advanced design concepts and applications. Education Required:
Associate Degree in engineering drafting/design or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Plus, a minimum of 9 additional years of relevant drafting and design experience.
