Music Instructor

Under general direction of the Recreation Manager, Music Instructors will teach private and group music lessons in their genre of expertise. This is a part-time position, with variable hours based on instructor's availability. This is an at-will position.

Qualifications • Preference given to candidates with a high school diploma or GED equivalent. • Candidate must like working with youth/people. • Candidate must be CPR/AED certified within six (6) months of hiring. • Candidate must have at least 1-year experience with music instruction.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities • Employee will prepare for each lesson using appropriate music lesson books and supplies. • Employee will teach students in a progressive manner and build upon skills and concepts learned and discussed at each lesson. • Employee will provide verbal progress updates on each student to parents and guardians at the conclusion of each class • Employee must perform all functions with close attention to customer service. • Employee must wear appropriate attire at all times. • Employee must attend staff meetings as required. • Employee must be prompt and prepared for scheduled hours of work. • Employee will provide weekly updates material needs and assignments. • Employee will provide a supportive and nurturing environment for each student. • Employee will adhere to music program guidelines and directives. • Employee will communicate professionally and in a timely fashion with all students and their families. • Employee must perform other duties as assigned.

Secondary Duties & Responsibilities • Employee is responsible for performing all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the Streamwood Park District safety program. • Employee must adhere to park district policies and procedures as described in the Personnel Policies Manual. • Employee must create enthusiasm and interest and be positive and supportive of the park district.

Cognitive Considerations • Employee must be able to follow directions from Recreation Manager. • Employee must administer safety awareness and use good judgment. • Employee must possess the ability to read, write and organize materials. • Employee must know where children are at all times. • Employee must be able to follow directions and communicate in English both verbally and in writing. • Employee must be able to make decisions objectively based on customer service and fiscal constraint. • Employee is responsible for keeping organized records and reports.

Psychological Considerations • Employee must be able to work independently in day-to-day operations with general direction of the Recreation Manager. • Employee must have the ability to delegate work, where appropriate, in order to accomplish work most effectively. • Employee must demonstrate leadership qualities to perform required work. • Employee must be able to work in a team atmosphere, while promoting the Park District's mission statement, vision and core values. • Employee must have the ability to maintain self-control and composure in difficult situations. • Employee must have the ability to recognize priorities and meet deadlines. • Employee must have the ability to receive constructive criticism and/or supervision. • Employee must have the ability to be flexible and adaptable to new situations. • Employee must possess enthusiasm and drive with a desire to accomplish goals and objectives.

Environmental & Physical Demands • Employee may be required to work both inside and outside during various environmental conditions, such as, but not limited to rain and mud, hot and cold temperatures, exposure to dust, fumes, dirt, and noise. • Employee may be exposed to children with communicable diseases and/or illnesses. • Employee must have the physical agility to maintain mobility from site to site, and be able to perform moderate manual tasks. • Employee may perform duties which include, but are not limited to prolonged lifting, standing, stooping, bending, twisting, and climbing for extended periods of time.

Salary Pay Range is $16.50-16.50. Starting at $16.50/hour Non-Exempt, Non-IMRF
