Job Summary: The Libraries' HR team provides HR, payroll and benefit services to approximate 210 staff and 400 student employees. We are a small team, and this provides us with the opportunity to gain experience in a broad range of job duties, play an active role in HR projects and committees, build leadership skills through new opportunities, and support each other's work.

As the leader of the Libraries' HR team, this position is responsible for the day-to-day management of operations, ensuring tasks and projects are completed on time, and leads the team through changes to policy and procedures. This position also serves as the workforce relations expert, coaching employees and supervisors through conversations, helping supervisors manage personnel concerns, and implementing disciplinary actions if needed. Included in these duties is serving as the main contact for FMLA and disability accommodations. Finally, this position will contribute to the implementation of large-scale campus and division projects and assists the Director of Business Administration with policy development and compensation exercises. Responsibilities: Designs, implements and monitors more than one human resources (HR) functional program such as payroll, recruitment, and employee relations and benefits. May supervise staff. Assists in strategy development to ensure the unit is able to process and support workforce needs and ensure regulatory compliance. 5% Identifies, designs, implements, and monitors Human Resources and staff training programs consistent with strategic objectives and initiatives 30% Directs and manages unit operational functions and/or staff 20% Identifies, proposes, implements, and interprets employment policies and practices for stakeholders, and provides recommendations for changes 15% Monitors programs and practices to ensure compliance with human resources laws, regulations, and institutional policies 30% Serves as subject matter expert to support unit managers' alignment of business needs and human resources strategy Tasks:

Supervises the Libraries Human Resources' Team Ensures day-to-day operations are meeting the needs of the Libraries. Backs-up team members as needed Serves as the subject matter expert for workforce/employee relations. Addresses personnel issues, coaches employees and supervisors, and monitors performance management. Manages the disciplinary process in collaboration with the supervisor and the Director of Business Administration Implements state pay plans, compensation and bonus exercises, and other programs as directed Serves as the Divisional Disability Representative (DDR) to manage accommodations and leads the administration of FMLA Occasionally develops and facilitates information sessions or trainings Contributes to the implementation of large-scale campus and division projects Represents the Libraries and campus committees Institutional Statement on Diversity: Diversity is a source of strength, creativity, and innovation for UW-Madison. Preferred Qualifications - Experience managing FMLA and/or disability accommodation processes - Experience with assisting and coaching supervisors and employees through difficult conversations, up to and including disciplinary action - Experience leading a team through daily operations and adjusting workloads according to demands - Experience reviewing and revising policies and procedures - Knowledge of state and federal laws related to human resources practices Work Type: Full Time: 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
