We are seeking a creative and collaborative theatrical design and technology professional with expertise in Costume and Make Up Design to support our multi-faceted undergraduate training program and to support our robust production season. This position teaches within a comprehensive theatre design and technology program focused on BFA students in Design and Technology and BA students in Drama. A full-time teaching assignment includes 12 credits per semester. Each semester, this position teaches 6 credits of coursework (2 courses) and 6 credits of reassigned time for mentoring student designers, assisting in managing the costume shop, and supporting the production season in various ways related to Costume and Make Up. The Department of Theatre and Dance has a dedicated part-time Costume Shop Manager who manages the daily tasks of the Costume Shop and oversees all costume practicum students. Courses taught could include Costume Design, Costume Construction Techniques, Costume Crafts, Make Up Design and Application, Production Seminar, and Theatre Appreciation, an important contribution to the Universitys General Education Program. There is also opportunity to develop new courses within the candidates area of expertise. Designing up to two productions per year is also a regular expectation of the position. Our annual season consists of eight productions: two staged readings, two fully produced plays, two fully produced musicals, and two fully produced dance concerts. Department designs are acceptable in the scholarly and creative activity required of all tenure track faculty. Additional non-instructional duties include: academic advising, student recruitment, scholarly/creative activity typical of all tenure track faculty, and service to the department, college, and university. There is also the possibility to serve as BFA Design and Technology Area Coordinator if candidates have the desired leadership skills and experience. We seek candidates with costume design and construction expertise and teaching methodologies that embrace the multi-centric perspectives in our field. Candidates will bring unique experiences and approaches to teaching and scholarship that expand traditional theatrical convention. Candidates will be outstanding teachers and mentors who will share their individual viewpoints and experiences with our dedicated students. Our department values anti-racism, inclusivity, and equity. As we intentionally aspire to address the need for systemic change in our department, the theatre industry, and our greater community, we strongly encourage historically under-represented candidates to apply. Required Qualifications A Ph.D. or Ed.D. in interpretation and/or environmental education or a related field earned or near completion. Earned doctorate will be required prior to the second retention decision (approximately 18 months after hire). Demonstrated experience in university teaching, providing professional development trainings, or delivering public environmental education/interpretation programs. Experience using a variety of computer software and online teaching platforms.

Preferred Qualifications Proven skill in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students. Applied experience in natural/cultural history interpretation or related field. Demonstrated ability to plan, write, and design interpretive media for general audiences. Commitment to equity and inclusion within the field of interpretation and experience in working with diverse populations of learners and clients. Experience communicating effectively to large or small groups, online and in-person, through a variety of media and technologies. Proven record of conducting and publishing research in interpretation or a related field.
