Description
The Medication Authorization Associate is responsible for supporting patient care with ancillary services. This position is responsible for obtaining authorization and the dispensing of pre-packaged medication, and Hyaluronic acid injectables as directed by providers to clinical staff following established protocol.
Reporting to the Supervisor, Ancillary Services, the Medication Authorization Associate is a member of the Ancillary Services department, a clinical support department providing services related to medications, injectables, durable medical equipment, and casting.

Responsibilities include:
1. Obtain insurance authorization from insurance companies using authorization platforms
2. Coordinates benefits with specialty pharmacies for injectables
3. Schedule patient appointments for injectables
4. Dispense medications and injectables from inventory using medication dispensing software
5. Research and respond to denials, appeals, and medical records requests related to medications and injectables
6. Monitors reconcile and stock inventory
7. Document activity in EMR
8. Travel between South Florida Orthopaedics office locations to ensure adequate coverage
9. Follow established policies, procedures, and protocols defined by South Florida Orthopaedics
10. Other duties in support of the goals and objectives of the Ancillary Services department and South Florida Orthopaedics
Requirements
1. Experience obtaining insurance authorizations with commercial insurance
2. Experience with authorization platforms, such as Availity, CoverMyMeds, MyVisco is helpful
3. Familiar with reading chart notes in EMR systems
4. Experience with commercial insurance and Medicare
5. EMR experience
6. Skilled at managing multiple competing priorities with a friendly demeanor
7. Demonstrates attention to detail to ensure accurate, timely, and efficient processing of authorization requests and dispensing of medication orders
8. Dependable and reliable with superior work attendance habits
9. Takes a team-oriented approach to work
10. Able to understand basic medical terminology
11. Familiar with basic pharmacy terminology helpful
12. Good math skills
